ESRI'S ARCGIS HUB SHINES IN GEOSMART ASIA 2017

With an increasing number of cities worldwide adopting Esri’s ArcGIS Hub, the concept is expected to usher in a new wave of Smart Cities in Asia. 

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Today, cities account for more than 50 per cent of the world’s population and produce 80 per cent of global Gross Domestic Product. By 2045, this figure is expected to grow by a further 1.5 times.

According to Brett Dixon, General Manager of Esri Asia Pacific, a growth pattern like this clearly indicates that the future sustainability of our communities depends on smarter governed cities.

With data available by way of intuitive apps, residents can play a greater role in shaping their government. It also supports the operations of various non-profit organisations including George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI), the Penang Botanic Gardens, Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC), among others.

In particular, e-Peta has helped decision-makers at alms collection organisation, Pusat Urus Zakat, to locate Muslim households and analyse their corresponding demographic data in order to determine their needs and identify who should give and receive alms.

ALIPAY AVAILABLE AT ALL 242 STARBUCKS OUTLET IN MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Tourists from mainland China can now use Alipay, an e-wallet platform, to make payment in yuan at all 242 Starbucks outlets in Malaysia.
In a statement today, Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company Sdn Bhd said Chinese tourists who paid by Alipay could also enjoy a 10 per cent discount with a cap at five yuan (RM1 = 1.56 yuan) and free drink size upgrade at the same time, once a week,  between Aug 18 and Oct 31, 2017.
"Each customer will also receive a 10 per cent-off e-voucher for future use upon completion of the first transaction," it said.
Berjaya Food Bhd Chief Executive Officer Sydney Quays said with the acceptance of Alipay in April 2017, the move would enable Chinese tourists to just flash their mobile application at the counter without going through money exchange to purchase a cup of coffee.

INCREASED DIGITALISATION WILL BOOST SALES OF ELECTRONICS TO REACH ALMOST 700 BILLION DOLLARS IN 2022

SINGAPORE, Aug 23 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Euromonitor International released today new data on the global consumer electronics industry.
 
According to the new research, consumer electronics sales will grow by 4.4 percent in the next five years, reaching 699.8 billion dollars by 2022. Emerging markets such as China and India will lead this growth, driven by a fast-growing middle class and their growing income.

CONFERENCE ON ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE OF ADVANCE MEDICAL DIRECTIVE



KUALA LUMPUR,   Aug 16 (Bernama) -- A conference will be held here to discuss the Islamic perspective on Advance Medical Directive (AMD), which more countries are adopting.
According to the director/senior fellow of the Centre for Science and Environment Studies at the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM), Dr Shaikh Mohd Saifuddeen Shaikh Mohd Salleh, AMD  is a legal document on the will or instructions of a person on the type of care he wants or the appointment of his representative, at a time when he has lost cognitive ability to make a decision.
The instruction is in connection to the patient’s autonomous choice to accept lifelong assistance if he suffers from long-term serious illness and the chance of a cure is slim.
“There is increasing awareness of AMD in our country even though there is no indication that it would be implemented here in the near future. However, to prepare society towards that, IKIM has taken the initiative to discuss this matter from an Islamic perspective.
“The discussion is a pro-active step to provide inputs to interested parties on an issue which needs attention if AMD is implemented in our country,” he said when met at the Expert Conference on”Framework of Guidelines on the Implementation of Advance Medical Directive According to Fiqh and Islamic Bioethics” organised by IKIM together with  KPJ Healthcare Berhad today.
He said the outcome of the conference would be documented, possibly in the form of a research report, and submitted to the relevant authorities such as the Health Ministry and the Malaysian Medical Council.

SEOUL & KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Aug 17 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Everise, a partnership between Sunrise and Everstone, has signed an MoU with UBASE, a leading Korean BPO service company, to create a joint venture that will be based in Singapore. This joint venture aligns two unique BPO companies to provide an unparalleled global service experience.

Through Everise’s operating unit, C3/CustomerContactChannels, UBASE will be able to expand its offerings to include English speaking call centre services based in the Far East. Similarly, C3 will be able to provide support to its clients, through UBASE, in the U.S. looking for services in Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

It will also support multiple European languages.

The unique business proposition will be delivered by hiring native speakers. This will eliminate the need for clients to engage with either multiple regional partners or insourced solutions to achieve the best language capabilities for its customer base in the region. By having native speakers providing the support for native speakers, the entire customer experience will be significantly elevated. The new hub will be set up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.
