MAWI ISWAB MICROBIOME-EL ENABLES PRIME DISCOVERIES' DEVELOPMENT OF COVIDDETECT™

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 (Bernama) -- Mawi DNA Technologies (Mawi), a biotechnology company focusing on the development of innovative technologies for biosampling, announced that Prime Discoveries has successfully developed CovidDetect™, a rapid isothermal amplification diagnostic assay for detecting SARS-CoV-2.

Without the need for RNA extraction and purification, the sample result occurs in less than 30 minutes, according to a statement.

The assay uses Mawi’s new iSWAB Microbiome-EL (Extraction-Less) sample collection technology. This allows RNA release from the sample and maintains stability, protecting it from degradation and allowing room temperature storage and transport.

Chief Science Officer at Prime Discoveries, Arun Manoharan, Ph.D. said: “Our work with COVID has shown stable performance of the Mawi iSWAB Microbiome-EL for hundreds of clinical samples with similar or superior performance to RT-PCR solutions.

“Our partnership with Mawi enables Prime Discoveries to develop room temperature sampling with Extraction-Less capabilities for our rapid diagnostic solutions in many areas. These include influenza, chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas, HBV, HCV, HPV, TB, herpes, syphilis, etc.

Prime Discoveries recently received CE IVD marking for CovidDetect™ and plans to pursue FDA 510K approval soon.

Clinical results from Prime CovidDetect™ have been peer reviewed and recently published in PLOS ONE under ‘A Rapid, Specific, Extraction-Less, and Cost-Effective RT-LAMP Test for the Detection of SARS-CoV-2 in Clinical Specimens’.

The CE marking allows deployment of a solution to countries in Africa and Asia where rapid, inexpensive diagnostics for various infections with minimal technical expertise and equipment infrastructure is highly required.

Prime CovidDetect™ leverages Mawi’s unique iSWAB Microbiome-EL sample collection buffer with Prime Discoveries’ patented Loop AMPlification (LAMP) technology. This allows isothermal nucleic acid amplification removing the need for expensive thermal cycling equipment required for PCR.

Founded in 2013, Mawi DNA Technologies has developed and commercialised the iSWAB technology, an innovative system for collection of biosamples.

To capitalise on this substantial growth, the research predicts leading digital payment vendors will diversify their payment products to include new solutions, such as buy-now-pay-later and cryptocurrencies.

Digital wallets are software-based systems that securely store users’ payment information for many payment methods in one location.

The new research, Digital Wallets: Key Opportunities, Vendor Analysis and Market Forecasts 2022-2026, found increasing merchant acceptance of digital wallet methods at eCommerce checkouts has been a driving force behind enabling further digital wallets use.

It predicts APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that connect financial institutions to local retailers will be key to the international growth of digital wallets usage for large, cross-border eCommerce merchants.

CLARITAS HEALTHTECH, UNC SIGN AGREEMENT COMMERCIALISING PAEDIATRIC MRI SOFTWARE

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 (Bernama) -- Claritas HealthTech Pte Ltd (Claritas), a healthcare technology company has announced finalising a licence agreement to commercialise the Paediatric MRI software developed and patented by the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill.

This licence agreement grants Claritas the exclusive worldwide right to promote and market the deep-learning software solution that improves the quality and efficiency of paediatric MRI scans through Retrospective Artifact Correction.

“MRI scans are particularly sensitive to physical movement and for a child to remain motionless for up to an hour to obtain an image of appropriate quality is difficult. The thought of spending 45 minutes to an hour in a noisy, enclosed tube can be intimidating for adults. Sometimes, a child may have to take sedation or undergo a general anaesthetic which brings additional risk and requires close supervision.

“This can add delay and limit the use of a valuable tool,” commented Dr Arup Paul, Chief Clinical Strategy Officer, at Claritas HealthTech in a statement.

“We are excited about this new technology that can ‘correct’ the image impairment (artifact) caused by physical movement that previously rendered MRI images unusable or difficult to read.

“This will reduce the need to repeat scans, give clinicians more confidence in interpreting these images and determining clinical management. This step change in 'artifact correction' will help drive access, quality and safety in Paediatric care, benefiting patients and those who care for them.”

Claritas aims to transform the diagnostics industry with powerful and effective software products created using image enhancement and AI technology enabling and assisting doctors and physicians to make accurate diagnosis and improve patient lives.

G20 EXPECTS INDONESIA'S G20 PRESIDENCY SEEKS SOLUTION TO THE RUSSIA-UKRAINE CONFLICT

KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) -- The second G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting expects Indonesia's G20 Presidency to bring about a solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, states Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

"(G20) members hope that the current geopolitical situation, particularly related to the war in Ukraine, will be handled," Indrawati noted at a press conference of the second G20 FMCBG meeting on Thursday.

The expectation is based on the fact that the global situation has worsened and changed rapidly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the Russia-Ukraine war, she remarked.

Moreover, the Russia-Ukraine war has a very dynamic implication, including on the energy, food, and fertiliser price hike, she affirmed.

According to a statement, Indrawati said Indonesia, which currently holds the G20 presidency, will continue to conduct intensive communication and consultations with all G20 members to address the very dynamic situation.

Indonesia continues to hold discussions with all G20 member states to find ways to get out of the various global economic risks that result not only from the war in Ukraine but also from the pandemic, she states.

The minister emphasised the current need for an exit strategy since several countries were under the threat of high inflation while the global energy and food price hike will increasingly create a challenging situation for policy makers.

According to Indrawati, G20 members are concerned about inflationary pressures that tend to prompt several central banks to raise the policy interest rates that will eventually lead to faster-than-expected global liquidity tightening.

MONETAGO DESIGNATES IAN MILNE AS ASIA PACIFIC SALES HEAD

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Financial technology solutions provider MonetaGo has appointed Ian Milne to the newly created role of head of sales, Asia Pacific, with immediate effect.

Milne brings to MonetaGo over three decades of banking experience, having held senior roles at global banks including Fortis, Standard Chartered, HSBC and most recently Rabobank.

Over the course of his career, he successfully led the delivery of a robust operational infrastructure, establishing procedures and frameworks to provide sanctions, anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing compliance on all commodities and structured trade finance facilities, along with operational risk controls in accordance with regulatory standards.

Based in Singapore, Milne will lead MonetaGo’s engagement with trade financiers across the Asia Pacific region to drive adoption of the Secure Financing platform.

“The entry into force of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) has opened up new opportunities for trade across the region, but this growth risks being held back by the trade finance gap, which disproportionately impacts developing Asia,” says MonetaGo CEO and founder, Jesse Chenard in a statement.

“Having Ian on board will take MonetaGo closer to its goal of providing the Secure Financing system to all trade financiers, enabling more trade finance to get to where it’s so desperately needed.”

Meanwhile, Milne noted that throughout his 32-year career, he had a front-row seat to some of the major fraud defaults that have rocked trade and commodity finance, all of which brought into sharp focus the need for a solid understanding of the industry.

“MonetaGo’s Secure Financing system provides a compliant means by which banks can share information on potential risks, solving for the problem of duplicate financing in trade once and for all.”

MonetaGo provides the first-ever global solution to duplicate financing fraud in trade finance, and is the world’s foremost provider of such technology to prevent both domestic and cross-border duplicate financing.

Speaking at the opening of the store, incoming BWY Group Chief Executive Officer, Alexandre Rosso, said “We opened our very first store in Selangor right here in Taman Megah in 2002, which helped nurture generations of bakers in this community.  We are now reinvesting in the community by bringing a more ‘Megah’ experience – a bigger, better store, with a wider variety of the baking essentials we are known for. It is our way of thanking the community for their unwavering support over the years, and supporting the much larger community of bakers the store now serves.”

BWY Taman Megah is strategically located in the heart of Taman Megah, a stone’s throw away from the original store.  The store features over 3000 product items spread across one floor, making it more accessible and convenient compared to the previous store, which was spread over two floors.  Products include chilled products like butter, milk and cheese; groceries like flour, chocolate, dried fruit & nuts; cake and cookie premixes, through to baking utensils.  There are popular brands such as Lurpak, Anchor, Oreo and Nutella, amongst many others, as well as BWY’s own extensive range of in-house products.

The store also caters to newbie and would-be bakers, featuring BWY’s extensive range of premixes, like the Nasi Lemak Crunchy Cookies, a new variant introduced this Ramadhan, through to the very popular sourdough scones, an all-time best-seller. Value-seekers will be pleased to learn that the store offers some of the best prices in the market on popular items such as Ausicows butter at just RM7.90 per 250g pack, the lowest in the market.

Regular customers were invited to the opening to enjoy a stroll around the spacious store, to meet with BWY’s team of chefs, who demonstrated some of the popular premixes on sale, as well as to enjoy special opening day gifts. Visiting the store for the first time was a resident shopper, who said, “Bake With Yen has been and is our go-to baking supplies shop for the past 15 years, ever since our second daughter introduced us to it. We get almost all our baking needs and at reasonable prices too. With the opening of the Taman Megah Superstore, we now have very easy access to a huge range of baking ingredients and supplies especially with the Raya baking season dawning on us.”

PUBLIC APPEARANCE OF PICTURESQUE ZHEJIANG IN THE 2022 MATTA FAIR

Picturesque Zhejiang attracted many local visitors  at MATTA Fair 2022

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- The 2022 MATTA Fair organized by the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) was held on April 9 and April 10 in Kuala Lumpur, attended by Zhejiang Tourism (Southeast Asia) Promotion Center for “Picturesque Zhejiang” project on behalf of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

The 2022 MATTA Fair, the largest-scale international tourism fair held offline ever in Malaysia after the Covid-19 pandemic, attracted tens of thousands of visitors. The “Picturesque Zhejiang” booth on site had played the promotional videos that introduced Zhejiang’s culture and tourism resources, vividly illustrating the unique sightseeing resources and colorful cultural heritages of Zhejiang.

A large number of visitors immersed themselves in the video at the booth, took active participation in interaction and survey, and got rewarded by the characteristic Zhejiang-related souvenirs. The Picturesque Zhejiang VR video, in particular, had strongly impressed every audience and brought them a virtual tour to Zhejiang and to experience its extraordinary charm.

As many Malaysian visitors on site expressed, it is a pity they couldn’t visit Zhejiang for the time being, but they would definitely pay a visit in person to Zhejiang, enjoy its beauty and charm, as well as experience the local culture and communicate with local people.

The 2022 MATTA Fair marked the public debut of Zhejiang on international fairs after the pandemic. Not only does Zhejiang aspire to deliver the charm of Zhejiang to more SEA public and enhance the brand image by taking a good advantage of tourism industry recovery, but also Zhejiang would like to seek for global partners to help with the recovery of its inbound tourism market through communication with international platforms.

Kioxia releases version 3.20 of KumoScale™ storage software

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- Kioxia Corporation, a world leader in memory solutions, has released version 3.20 of its KumoScale™ storage software built around the NVM Express™ over Fabrics (NVMe-oF™) protocol.

Designed for cloud-centric deployment at data centre scale, the KumoScale storage platform delivers high performance NVM Express (NVMe™) flash storage as a disaggregated networked service, according to a statement.

Major features in KumoScale software version 3.20 include additional bare metal deployment options, seamless support for OpenID Connect 1.0, and support for NVIDIA Magnum IO GPUDirect Storage (GDS).

In addition to the KumoScale software’s streamlined appliance install, KumoScale software version 3.20 adds an option to deploy on generally available commercial operating systems.

For large data centres, storage infrastructure, of necessity, is tightly integrated with a variety of sub systems such as those for provisioning, monitoring, telemetry and networking.

Version 3.20 adds support for NVIDIA GDS. GDS enables a direct data path for direct memory access (DMA) transfers between GPU memory and storage, which avoids a bounce buffer through the CPU. This direct path increases system bandwidth and decreases the latency and utilisation load on the CPU.

Version 3.20 adds support for third-party OpenID Connect 1.0. OpenID Connect is an identity layer on top of the OAuth 2.0 protocol that allows clients to verify the identity of users and session based on the authentication performed by an Authorization Server for service account permissions.

KumoScale software version 3.20 also includes CSI raw block support, and an embedded Grafana™ storage analytics dashboard.
