AM Best downgrades Bhutan-based RICB Credit Ratings
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- AM Best has downgraded the Financial Strength Rating to C (weak) from B- (fair) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating to ‘ccc+’ from ‘bb-’ of the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Limited (RICB) Bhutan.
Concurrently, the rating agency has maintained under review with negative implications status on these credit ratings.
The ratings reflect the company’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best classified as weak, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and marginal enterprise risk management.
The rating downgrades reflect a deterioration in AM Best view of RICB’s balance sheet strength and operating performance fundamentals.
RICB’s risk-adjusted capitalisation, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio, declined to a weak level last year and is expected to remain subject to significant pressure and volatility over the near term.
The continuation of the under review with negative implications status reflects AM Best’s expectation of near-term volatility in the company’s balance sheet strength and operating performance, as well as the potential for further deterioration in these key rating fundamentals.
AM Best will continue to monitor closely near-term developments and expects to resolve the under review status when a forward-looking view on rating fundamentals can be determined.

Fusionex, IMU catalyse medical education, research via big data analytics
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 -- Fusionex and the International Medical University (IMU) have taken a bold step to integrate big data analytics (BDA) and artificial intelligence (AI) in IMU’s medical and health sciences programmes.
Fusionex and IMU expressed their commitment with the exchange of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), by IMU Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Pook and Fusionex Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Ivan Teh.
The MoA sees both parties leveraging on their respective strengths – Fusionex utilising BDA and AI, and IMU lending its expertise and knowledge in the healthcare industry – to work together on various aspects of medical research & development, including cancer informatics, advanced drugs, vaccine design and healthcare analytics.
In order to equip future healthcare providers with the right set of skills and knowledge, this collaboration will see five IMU undergraduate programmes, each piloting a BDA module.
The programmes are Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons); BSc (Hons) in Medical Biotechnology; BSc (Hons) in Dietetics with Nutrition; BSc (Hons) in Nutrition; and, BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science.
These will be some of the first non-ICT degree programmes to integrate BDA as part of its syllabus.
These programmes will provide four outcomes - an overview of the analytics life cycle, how analytics is contributing to the healthcare industry, why making data-driven decisions is key for an organisation, and effectively using analytical and AI skills in solving healthcare-related problems.
