LZS Free Market Receives Overwhelming Response

SHAH ALAM, May 13 (Bernama) -- The Free Market programme organised by the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) to welcome the month of Ramadan received overwhelming response with various items including, clothing, food and books, donated by the public to the needy.

LZS Corporate Communications and Stakeholder Relations division head Norajun Ainon Mohd Hashim said about 400 recipients and those from the low-income group attended the programme, held at the LZS office here.

We received donations, including clothing, books and bags, from 50 contributors, she said, adding that the Parent-Teacher Association of Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 13, here, contributed sugar, rice and cooking oil.

While the programme was ongoing, several more contributors turned up to donate clothes and other items.

Norajun Ainon said LZS organised the programme twice a year, normally before Ramadan and in before school reopened for the the new session.

"All the items donated will be checked in advance to ensure they are in good condition and will be given free to the needy," she said.

Meanwhile, one of the contributors, Rozita Zulkifli, 42, said this was her first experience contributing goods directly to those in need and hoped such a programme would be held more often.

A guest, Saad Kasim, 49, said programme such as this helped made things lot easier for him especially in providing clothes for his three children to celebrate Syawal.

He said the programme should be organised more frequently as it provided an avenue for the public to contribute directly to those in need,.
