TECHNOLOGY PARK MALAYSIA WINS NATIONAL ZAKAT AWARD 2018 FOR GLC CATEGORY



PUTRAJAYA, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM), the country’s leading technology park and incubation centre, has won the National Zakat Award 2018 for the Government-linked company (GLC) category.

The annual National Zakat Award is organized by the Jabatan Wakaf, Zakat dan Haji (JAWHAR) which is under the Prime Minister’s Department.

For this year’s Award, TPM has been recognized for playing its outstanding role and contributions to the promotion of Islamic values and religious obligations among its employees, national level corporate social responsibilities (CSR) as well as development and enhancement national societal well-being.

Having played a vital corporate role in its commitment to the annual zakat contribution, TPM has also been instrumental in ensuring that its employees are consistently informed on their Islamic and religious obligations through seminars on a monthly basis.

In accepting the Award, TPM Acting President/Chief Executive Officer, Encik Sharbani Harun, expressed deep gratitude to JAWHAR for the recognition of TPM’s contributions and initiatives not only in its monthly zakat contributions, but also instituting the relevant programmes to enhance knowledge and enriching the livelihood of society at the national level.

“We are indeed obligated to ensure that true Islamic values and teachings are promoted to all Muslim employees within TPM. We strongly believe in undertaking several noble CSR and social innovation initiatives towards improving the societal living standards of the less fortunate and underprivileged.

“The National Zakat Award 2018 is dedicated to all employees of the TPM family and we are certainly very proud and blessed to be given such recognition,” said Sharbani.

Among the major activities and social programmes undertaken by TPM included:

1)Conducting professional 6G welding courses to asnaf teenagers and youth from Kuala Lumpur and Perak jointly organized with Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan and Majlis Agama Islam Perak;

2)CSR programme in providing Hari Raya clothing and other necessities for poor students and orphans in Melaka and Perak;

3)Organising exhibitions and promotional programmes related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education for school children throughout schools in Malaysia;

4)Tecoma tree-planting exercise to encourage environmental protection and horticulture beautification among school children at SMK Toh Indera Wangsa Ahmad, Batu Gajah, Perak.

5)Eye glasses contribution to underprivileged students at Sungei Lembing, Pahang;

6)Introducing and promoting social innovation of “MyFon” - the first of its kind in Asia cashless telephone technology, to students of SMK Raja Perempuan Kalsom, Kuala Kangsar, Perak; and

Technology Park Malaysia, an agency of the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), has an integrated infrastructure, facilities and support services to assist technopreneurs and entrepreneurs who are keen to commercialize their ideas in the four industry clusters, namely, ICT, Engineering, Biotechnology and Green Technology.
