Japan's Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo to celebrate spring, cherry blossoms arrival
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 -- Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo (KPH) located in Shinjuku in Tokyo, Japan, will host a special event to celebrate the arrival of spring and the ‘Sakura’ cherry blossoms between March 1 to April 30.
The hotel’s executive chefs will prepare special menu items in the theme of cherry blossoms to be served at its eight restaurants, according to a statement.
In addition to blooming of the cherry blossoms, spring also represents a busy season for people celebrating various events such as school entrance and graduation, and the start of new jobs by graduating students.
During this event, various beautiful flower art arrangements created by the renowned Japanese ‘Ikebana’ flower arrangement artist Hiroki Maeno will be displayed in the third-floor lobby and the second restaurant floor corridor areas of the hotel.

NTHU research team develops new cancer treatment
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 -- A research team led by Dr Yunching Chen and Tsai-Te Lu of National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) have developed a new cancer treatment, in which blood vessels within malignant tumours are normalised.
This is done by injecting a specially developed nanodelivery system for nitric oxide, which also facilitates the delivery of cancer drugs and immunocytes into the tumour.
Chen explained that after the tumourous blood vessels are normalised, they can help to enhance the function of anti-cancer drugs and immune cells.
According to a statement, the team developed a polymer-based nanodelivery system consisting of lactic acid and glycolic acid to stabilise the biomimetic dinitrosyl iron complex that releases nitric oxide.
This will extend the time in which nitric oxide molecules are effectively released from a few minutes to several days, allowing them to accumulate in tumourous tissues, and restoring the abnormal blood vessels to normal.
At this point, anti-cancer drugs and immune cells can penetrate into the tumour, destroying the cancer cells in one fell swoop.
The team has already applied for patents in Taiwan and the United States for the developed nitric oxide nanocarrier, and they are currently investigating the possibility of cooperation with domestic hospitals and international pharmaceutical companies.

HOLISTIC KPMG ASEAN SCHOLARSHIP DESIGNED FOR UNDERGRADUATES TO GAIN CROSS BORDER EXPERIENCE
KPMG calls for young Malaysians to unleash their potential
PETALING JAYA, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The KPMG ASEAN Scholarship, a regional scholarship program, is once again open until 20 March 2020 for outstanding Malaysian undergraduates to apply. The scholarship provides funding and employment opportunities in four ASEAN nations alongside Malaysia: Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. KPMG is the first of the Big 4 professional services firms to offer such program in the region, which was established in 2015.
Eligible scholars who are keen on getting first-hand corporate experience or have interest in acquiring structured cross-border experiences are encouraged to apply. Exceptional undergraduates who are currently in their first or second year of their degree program in any discipline are welcome.
Adrian Lee, Head of People at KPMG in Malaysia, explains “KPMG’s ASEAN Scholarship program enables undergraduates to engage with people from different countries while learning employable skillsets that will benefit them when they graduate and join the workforce. Selected applicants will have the opportunity to broaden their experience with two internships; one with the Malaysia firm and the other within one of the four participating member firms in ASEAN.
“Last year, we received over 460 applicants from various universities across Malaysia and through rigorous selection, have supported five promising graduates from Malaysia to stretch their potential to grow and become leaders of the future.” Adrian added.
Scholars will receive an annual scholarship grant of RM12,000 per annum and allowance for internships abroad. This program also offers employment prospects for excellent scholars upon graduation.
KPMG’s structured program is supported by three pillars – professional development, strategic engagement and social connection – where KPMG’s ASEAN Scholars can anticipate diverse learning and development opportunities.
From the 2017 cohort, local scholar, Natasha Bong Sue Yan, who graduated last year, explained how her internship in Singapore has allowed her to grow outside of her comfort zone.
“I was in my second year of studies at the time of my internship and I was privileged to be able to meet clients from various engagements. This allowed me to gain insights on how different industries function and I brought this knowledge to the classroom. This experience helped to expand my learning curve, especially in areas of customer centric operations.
“I am also thankful for the support system that I received during my internship as my managers and peers were supportive and willing to guide me through, which made me felt appreciated. In the course of my internship, I was able to integrate along with other ASEAN Scholars and we were able to participate in one of the firm’s Corporate Citizenship initiatives, which was a great platform to interact with the community,” shared Natasha, who will be commencing as an Associate with the Strategy and Operations department at KPMG in Singapore in March.
Currently in his last semester pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting and Management, Mohammad Uqail Esa, expressed that it was an honour to be selected as he feels this is a jump start to his dream career in the field of audit.
“I look forward to be able to contribute and learn throughout the KPMG ASEAN scholarship program as I anticipate working alongside colleagues and other ASEAN scholars from different countries. To me, that is the epitome of diversity and inclusion,” said Uqail who will be embarking on his career journey with KPMG in Malaysia.
Throughout this program, scholars will be mentored by senior members of staff and management to ensure that they have an all-inclusive experience working at KPMG. Upon joining this program, they are also eligible to access employee benefits such as Flexible Working Arrangements, rapid career advancement and the chance to participate in CSR activities that contribute towards improving the communities.

WIDER VIEW, MORE FACTS -- HYTERA LTE BODY WORN CAMERA VM780
SHENZHEN, China, Feb 14 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- With the ever-increasing needs for enforcement transparency, the body-worn cameras have been widely used among law enforcement agencies, which may result in better accountability between the police officers and civilians. By exposing bad or good behaviors, the body-worn cameras also have a strong deterrent against misuse of force by the police officers and violent behavior of citizens.
This press release features multimedia. View the full release here:
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200213005481/en/
It is essential to choose the right body-worn camera for each actual requirement. Here, Hytera presents its LTE body-worn camera VM780. It can capture HD videos to provide evidence for trial. More importantly, this camera has the ability to send live videos back to the control center over a 4G network. This helps the dispatcher know exactly what is happening, enhance real-time situational awareness and facilitate decision-making.
Record Facts
One of the most notable features is the 216-degree rotatable HD camera. It allows users to easily adjust the angle and capture pictures or videos in an optimal view, without removing the camera from the gear. Meanwhile, the 116-degree wide-angle lens captures more of a scene with minimal distortion. In dark conditions, the camera can still recognize a human face 5 meters, or outline 10 meters away thanks to its infrared night vision capability.
The body-worn camera VM780 uses H.265 video compression technology to save 50% storage and bandwidth compared with H.264, without sacrificing video quality. Equipped with a 3,500 mAh battery, this camera supports up to 9 hours of continuous recording. The camera offers a 64 GB/128 GB storage capacity, which is equivalent to 40/80 hours of recorded footage.
Improve Situational Awareness
The LTE body-worn camera VM780 uses the dual-stream technology. When the camera streams live video to the control center over 4G/LTE network, it can also save the same video locally. This enables dispatchers and responders to share the same information in real time, making response faster and more efficient. The body-worn camera provides positioning services by using GPS, GLONASS, BDS, and indoor Bluetooth. Users can carry out positioning, historical track playback, E-fence, and patrol route planning on the map.
Protect Your Data and People
Hytera embeds AES-256 encryption in the body-worn camera for unbreakable data security. All footage recorded by the camera is encrypted and only accessible to authorized users. The video is automatically tagged with time stamp, device ID, and user ID upon recording for tamper-proofing. If the battery goes off suddenly during recording, the body-worn camera can automatically recover the corrupted video file after power-on, so that users will never lose any critical moment.
The LTE body-worn camera VM780 comes with a dedicated emergency key. By pressing the key to alert dispatchers for assistance in an emergency, it helps users stay safe and secure.
Be a PoC radio
Hytera LTE body-worn camera VM780 also serves as a push-to-talk over cellular (PoC) radio. Over 3G, 4G, or WLAN networks, this camera allows users to make a voice call simply by pressing the push-to-talk (PTT) key. Thanks to the advanced noise reduction technology, the camera picks up the voice while removing the ambient noise. Meanwhile, the camera has two powerful 1.5-watt speakers to deliver loud and clear audio during the call, even in highly noisy environments. The body-worn camera can also be paired with a narrowband radio through Bluetooth to act as a remote speaker microphone of the latter.
Rugged and Durable
Hytera LTE body-worn camera VM780 is robust and tough against the rigor of the job site. This IP-68 certified camera is fully dust-proof and water-resistant. Meeting the MIL-STD-810G standards, the body-worn camera can withstand a drop from 2 meters. Even in harsh conditions such as dust and rain, the body-worn camera still works in a stable and reliable manner.
Comprehensive accessories and solutions
Hytera provides a complete solution to manage the body-worn camera and digital evidence from the field to the court. This solution includes the mobile device management (MDM), integrated device station (IDS) and digital evidence management (DEM). The MDM can program and upgrade body-worn cameras in batch remotely, to improve working efficiency. The IDS can collect data from body-worn cameras automatically, to query and replay the evidence. The DEM can process massive amount of data and provide a powerful search function to quickly find electronic evidence, and support role-based access control and user authorization for security.
In the meantime, the body-worn camera offers a wide range of accessories like belt clip, power adapter, USB earphone, data cable, multi-unit charger and strap to fit different situations.

Aptorum Group unveils progress on repurposed drug candidate for neuroblastoma
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 -- Biopharmaceutical company, Aptorum Group Limited (Aptorum Group) has announced positive data and development in relation to its repurposed drug candidate, SACT-1, for the treatment of neuroblastoma.
Neuroblastoma is a rare type of childhood cancer that develops in infants and young children. Subject to completion of current validation studies, Aptorum Group plans to leverage the 505(b)(2) pathway and submit an IND submission with the FDA for SACT-1 in H2 2020.
SACT-1 is the first repurposed drug candidate to be developed under the Smart-ACTTM drug discovery platform using systematic approach to identify, repurpose and develop existing approved drugs against a currently identified universe of over 7,000 (and increasing) orphan diseases.
Via this platform, Aptorum Group intends to accelerate and fast track repurposed drug candidates through the development and clinical phases to address the rapidly growing market of orphan diseases.
Through the Smart-ACTTM platform, Aptorum Group has successfully identified potential efficacy for and develops SACT-1 for the treatment of neuroblastoma, being an entirely new therapeutic area from its approved indication.
In its recent studies, SACT-1 has been shown to be effective against numerous neuroblastoma cell lines, of which two are MYCN-amplified cells, representing the high-risk neuroblastoma patient group.
The reformulation of SACT-1 is a pediatric formulation to better address the needs of neuroblastoma patients who are exclusively children younger than five.

MISC LEADS OGSE100 LIST FOR FY2018
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- MISC Bhd has topped the table in a new ranking of Malaysia’s top oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) companies, according to Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC).
Offshore floating facility service provider MISC came in at number one for the second consecutive year in the FY2018 rankings of OGSE100 (formerly known as MPRC100), which ranks Malaysia’s top 100 OGSE firms based on their annual revenues. Sapura Energy Bhd is ranked at number two, followed by Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd in the third spot and Dialog Group Bhd in fourth place.
Major rank climbers of OGSE100 are Petronnic Sdn. Bhd. ranked 42nd from 73rd, Wood Group Engineering Sdn. Bhd., (up from 61st to 32nd spot) AntiCorrosion Protective Systems (M) Sdn. Bhd. at 99th spot (from 342nd), Technip Consultant Sdn. Bhd. at 84th (from 133rd) , and Aker Solutions APAC Sdn. Bhd., which rose to 38th from 116th, among others.
“The FY2018 findings in OGSE100 provide useful insights into how Malaysian OGSE companies had performed throughout the year whilst navigating geopolitical and trade tensions, as well as uncertainties confronting the global oil and gas landscape,” said MPRC Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mohd Yazid Ja’afar.
The list also provides an opportunity for OGSE industry players to gain clarity on their positions against other domestic players as well as their regional peers, he added.
OGSE100 data showed that overall revenue for the sector declined 2.2% on-year to RM55.2 billion in FY2018 and recorded a loss of RM1.9 billion in FY2018 compared with a loss of RM361.6 million in the previous financial year, due to impairment charges undertaken by asset-heavy companies. The companies that lead the impairment exercise for 2018 include Sapura Energy Berhad and Bumi Armada Berhad, with a combined impairment of RM 4.4 billion from a total of RM 5.8 billion that took place in the same financial year. Other listed players that have also booked impairments include MISC Bhd, Icon Offshore Bhd, Perisai Petroleum Teknologi Bhd, KNM Group Bhd, and Alam Maritim Resources Bhd.
In terms of regional performance, Malaysian players were more affected by the market movements with slower growth recorded at 6.4% on-year compared to 24.9% by their regional peers in FY18. OGSE companies in neighbouring countries saw positive upswings in their books on the back of assets deliveries including rigs, floaters, FPSOs as well as revenue recognition for increased assets utilisation rates.
Looking ahead in 2020, Malaysia OGSE’s industry is facing a confluence of headwinds: geopolitical and trade policy uncertainties, concerns about global economy, a well-supplied oil market and the gradual transition to a low-carbon future.
Against these headwinds, Malaysia’s OGSE companies need to be in the “driving seat of innovation and venture to safeguard profitability and improve efficiency,” Yazid said.
“Companies can also build future-proof portfolios by venturing into complementary new areas such as solar and biomass to meet growing demand for sustainable energy sources, while exploring new areas of growth that are in step with Malaysia’s journey towards Industry 4.0.,” he added.

Moody's reaffirms Baa2 long-term issuer credit rating of Guotai Junan International
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 -- Guotai Junan International Holdings Limited’s (Guotai Junan International or GTJAI) ‘Baa2’ long-term issuer rating has been reaffirmed with stable outlook by Moody’s Investor Service (Moody’s).
This is the second time that Guotai Junan International has obtained the reaffirmed investment-grade credit rating by Moody’s since July 2019, indicating the highest rating among the Chinese securities companies in Hong Kong currently.
GTJAI standalone assessment reflects three credit strengths namely, leading position in the niche market of helping individuals from the mainland trade offshore securities; relatively good and stable profitability; and, long track record of operating in the Hong Kong securities market.
The report mentioned that GTJAI’s stable rating outlook reflected that Guotai Junan International was expected to maintain sound financial metrics, and government’s support was unlikely to change in the next 12-18 months.
Moody’s also pointed out that GTJAI has maintained good profitability metrics in recent years. Its brokerage commission rose by seven per cent in the first half of 2019 while the average daily stock trading volume in the Hong Kong market declined by 23 per cent during the period.
GTJAI has a transparent business model and follows prudent risk control procedures. From two-year observation, Moody’s opined that the business model of GTJAI’s structured products (financial products) is transparent and effective.
Moody’s in its report also mentioned the underlying assets of structured products, as well as Guotai Junan International’s built-in risk control measures in structured products business, according to a statement.
Guotai Junan International will strive to enhance risk-adjusted return on capital, pursue a high-quality and sustainable development and reward clients and investors for their long-term support with a steady and desirable growth.

AM Best gives excellent ratings for New Zealand's CLINZ
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 -- Global credit rating agency, AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of A (excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of ‘a’ for Cigna Life Insurance New Zealand Limited (CLINZ) New Zealand.
The outlook of these Credit Ratings is stable, according to a statement.
These rating actions follow completion of a portfolio transfer on Jan 31, whereby CLINZ acquired 100 per cent of the assets and liabilities of OnePath Life (NZ) Limited (OPL).
Cigna Corporation (Cigna group) previously purchased OPL from ANZ Bank New Zealand Limited in November 2018. The recent portfolio transfer represents the final phase of the acquisition process, combining the business operations of CLINZ and OPL.

CLINZ’s balance sheet strength is underpinned by its risk-adjusted capitalisation, which AM Best expects to remain at the strongest level over the medium term, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio.
The company has a track record of reporting positive underwriting and investment results, with operating performance metrics expected to remain at an adequate level over the medium term.
AM Best expects some near-term expenses to arise from integration and transaction costs emanating from the OPL transfer, over the medium term the increased scale of the combined businesses is expected to support lower expense ratios.

EMPLOYER'S GUIDE DURING THE FLU PANDEMIC OUTBREAK
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- With the recent pandemic outbreak such as Influenza flu and the deadly Novel Coronavirus 2019-nCoV (also known as the Wuhan virus), it is important for business owners to stay alert and take precaution steps in protecting your employees and customers alike.
Why is it important to reduce cross-contamination at your premises? Understanding how the virus transmission process and taking the right proactive steps including prevention habits can greatly reduce the risk in cross-contamination and the best prevention of an outbreak of disease.
Protect your employees and customers with these precautionary steps to avoid the spread of the virus at your premises:
1. Providing adequate Hand Hygiene facilities
Hand hygiene is the most basic yet utterly important line of defence to stop the spread of virus! These infectious diseases spread from person to person by direct or indirect contact. Transmission occurs when an infected person touches someone else e.g. via handshake. Droplets released during coughing, sneezing and even speaking can also transmit the virus to others without any touch involved. Do encourage your employees and customers to practice the 3-step hand hygiene frequently, and avoid touching the eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands. These 3-step includes washing your hands with clean water and soap, drying them thoroughly and sanitising them for extra protection.
2. Create a healthy and hygienic workplace to combat cross-contamination
A study shows that Influenza virus can survive on hands and surfaces up to 48 hours, contaminated hands can transfer germs to 7 separate surfaces and a flu infection could spread to the entire office in 4 hours. Indirect virus transmission such as airborne transmission could be prevented through installing air steriliser or air sanitiser that could kill up to 99.99% viruses.
Regular cleaning is not just limited to washing your hands, but also includes cleaning on commonly used surfaces and devices. For extra protection, infection control and workstation sanitising services at your premises could help to prevent viral and airborne disease from spreading.
3. Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Employers are to advise employees to minimise travelling especially to affected areas or close contact (physically) with people who are sick or with flu-like symptoms, this also includes sharing food or water with the said infected person. Employees who are sick are advised to rest or work from home. Wearing a surgical mask in crowded areas would help to prevent viruses from spreading.
4. Encourage a healthy lifestyle to strengthen immune system
Employers play an important role in supporting a healthy lifestyle in the workplace. More and more corporate companies are introducing programmes that would encourage employees to live a healthy lifestyle such as getting adequate sleep, exercise regularly, eating a balanced diet, stress management, and etc.
Recognising early symptoms Coronavirus, Influenza A and common flu viruses might have similar symptoms but genetically they are very different. We advise you to seek medical treatment immediately if these symptoms have been identified such as sudden high fever, headache, cough/ sore throat, breathing difficulties, runny nose and muscle pain.
Maintaining your workplace hygiene is vital to your business performance and as an employer or business owner, taking proactive measures in protecting your employees and customers will help to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Let’s stay alert and healthy to combat this pandemic outbreak together. Download infographic here for more information.

Kioxia Corporation unveils device to support 5G-enabled applications
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 -- Kioxia Corporation has developed a new device to fulfil ever-growing bit demands for emerging applications enabled by the new 5G networks, artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles.
The new fifth-generation BiCS FLASH™ three-dimensional flash memory with a 112-layer vertically stacked structure can also be applied in traditional mobile devices as well as consumer and enterprise SSDs.
Kioxia, in a statement said the company planned to start shipping samples of the new device in the first quarter this year.
The new technology is able to reduce the cost per bit and increases the manufacturability of memory capacity per silicon wafer.
It can also improve interface speed by 50 per cent and offers higher programming performance and shorter read latency.
The device has a 512 gigabit (64 gigabytes) capacity with 3-bit-per-cell (triple-level cell, TLC) technology.
Jointly developed with Western Digital Corporation, the device will be manufactured at Kioxia’s Yokkaichi Plant and the newly-built Kitakami Plant in Japan.
