China´s Hangzhou adjudged 'happiest city' for 13 consecutive years

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 -- Eastern Chinese city, Hangzhou was rated one of the country's cities that offer their citizens utmost happiness at the 2019 China Happy Cities Forum recently, marking the 13th consecutive time the city has bagged the title.

Hangzhou, the only city with such an achievement across the country, was also named as a demonstration model happy city, a special honour from the event's organising committee, according to a statement.

The ‘happiest city’ is the highest praise that a city can get from its citizens. Hangzhou’s happiness is rooted in the hearts of the locals. Compared with other cities in China, Hangzhou pays more attention to people's feelings about the city.

The happiness also comes from the city's steady development as it speeds up the development of the first digital economy city and gathering place of global entrepreneurs among others, giving every entrepreneur and innovator coming to Hangzhou, the opportunity to realise their dreams and live a rich life.

Harmony with nature has contributed to Hangzhou dwellers' happiness, too. The happiness lies in lucid waters and lush mountains as the city is pushing ahead with sophisticated urban governance, enabling a forest coverage rate of 66.83 per cent.

The city has three world cultural heritage sites, namely the West Lake, the Grand Canal and the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City. People living in the ancient capital of Hangzhou with a history of over 1,000 years can experience the high-quality ecological life in the full enjoyment of nature every day.

Hangzhou's happiness is undoubtedly, diversified, and these sources of happiness are only some of them. Diverse senses of happiness are integrated into the subtle texture of Hangzhou, shaping people's daily happy life.

BWLPG.OL Q3 2019 - CONDENSED CONSOLIDATED INTERIM FINANCIAL INFORMATION

SINGAPORE, Nov 22 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
- Highest ever quarterly net profit of US$117 million
- Fleet wide VLGC TCE freight rates averaged US$48,100 per day
- TCE income of US$185 million, EBITDA of US$149 million with an EBITDA margin of 80.9%, generating a net profit after tax of US$117 million or US$0.83 per share
- Current dividend policy amended from a semi-annual to a quarterly dividend payout
- Declared Q3 2019 cash dividend of US$0.33 per share, bringing the YTD 2019 cash dividend to US$0.43 per share

In the third quarter, BW LPG Limited ("BW LPG", the "Company", OSE ticker code: "BWLPG.OL") achieved the highest ever quarterly net profit of US$117 million, underpinned by outstanding commercial performance and a strong VLGC freight market.

In light of the solid financial performance, the Board has amended the current dividend policy from a semi-annual to a quarterly dividend payout. The Board also declared a further dividend of US$0.33 per share amounting to US$45.7 million for Q3 2019. The dividend will be paid around 6 December 2019 to shareholders on record as at 27 November 2019. The shares will be traded ex-dividend from 26 November 2019. Together with the US$0.10 per share dividend paid for 1H 2019, the YTD 2019 interim dividends declared totals US$0.43 per share.

VLGC freight rates showed strength throughout the third quarter, mainly supported by overall strong US LPG exports and high geographical LPG price spreads. The expansion of enterprise export terminal is expected to ease the US Gulf Coast export terminal capacity and support high US exports and VLGC fleet utilisation.

The growth in LPG exports is supported by strong demand for imports, mostly driven by the petrochemical sector in North-East Asia as well as the retail sector from emerging markets in the subcontinent and across Asia. The expectation is therefore that ton-mile demand for VLGCs will increase, giving a positive freight outlook for the remainder of 2019 and 2020.

INITIAL HYGIENE MALAYSIA "LEAVES NO ONE BEHIND" IN DRIVING COMMUNITY AWARENESS ON HYGIENIC WASHROOM FOR WORLD TOILET DAY

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) --  What will you do when you have the urge for nature’s call while out of your comfort home? Will you insist on finding clean public toilets, or just pinch your nose through while getting your “business” done at any nearest public toilet that are unkempt and dirty?

A report from New Straits Times says that 61% out of the 10K public toilet in Malaysia are a disgrace. Only a miserable 3% achieved 5-star ratings, while 10% are too terrible to get even 1-star. Even our Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir commented that he avoids entering the public toilet. The dirty and foul-smelling environment is an embarrassment to everyone. Some of the common sights such as shoes marks heavily stained on the toilet seats, sanitary pads thrown on top of the sanitary bin instead of inside the bin or the hysteric bloody mess on the floor. Eventually public washrooms are labelled as unclean and unhygienic in Malaysia.

World Toilet Day (WTD) falls annually on the 19th of November. The theme for WTD 2019, “Leaving No One Behind”, aims to raise awareness of reducing cross-contamination related diseases and creating healthier communities. Leveraging on WTD driven efforts, it helps to close the sanitation gap with more sustainable access to sanitation services by 2022.

Everyone deserves access to clean and hygienic washrooms, and for sustenance efforts, these will need continuous support from all parties, especially the crucial role coming from employers and facility managers in providing complete and hygienic washroom facilities to internal employees and external visitors.

As a washroom user, we can contribute towards sustenance of clean and hygienic toilet by adopting simple washroom habits such as:-
● flushing after using the toilet,
● for men - aim right while doing your “business”,
● for ladies - ensure the sanitary pad is wrapped properly before disposing into the sanitary bin.

On the other hand, facilities management shall ensure the washroom amenities are adequately provided to employees and visitors, so everyone can practise simple washroom habits while keeping the washroom clean and hygienic at all times.

“Cross-contamination can easily happen as germs can be found anywhere. Hence, it is important to practice good washroom habits to prevent the spread of germs that could affect yourself and the people around you. As a responsible citizen of Malaysia, we have to play our role in keeping our toilets clean and hygienic, thus improving the hygiene standards in Malaysia” said Ms. Carol Lam, the Managing Director of Rentokil Initial Malaysia.

Initial Hygiene Malaysia, stepping up in our efforts to support World Toilet Day’s initiatives, promoting good washroom hygiene through the Hygiene Detective Campaign. Find out more here: http://bit.ly/hygienedetective2019.

ONE IN THREE CLOUD MIGRATIONS IN MALAYSIA AND SINGAPORE FAIL TO MEET EXPECTATIONS BECAUSE ORGANISATIONS DO NOT MAKE CLOUD PART OF THEIR CORE STRATEGY - FIRST UNISYS CLOUD SUCCESS BAROMETER(TM)

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 14 Nov. 2019 /Medianet International-AsiaNet/ --

- South East Asian organisations that integrate cloud into broader business transformation strategy are more than twice as likely to succeed with cloud migration compared to those who do not

Almost one third of Malaysian (27%) and Singapore (32%) organisations say they have failed to realise notable benefits from cloud computing, largely because they have not integrated their migration plan into their broader business transformation strategy, according to a new study by Unisys Corporation (UIS).

The first Unisys Cloud Success Barometer(TM) (https://www.unisys.com/cloudbarometer) study explores the impact and importance of cloud by surveying 1,000 senior IT and business leaders in 13 countries around the world, including 90 in Malaysia and Singapore. Other key findings include:

- 70% of organisations in Singapore and Malaysia say their organisational effectiveness has greatly or moderately improved for the better due to cloud
  computing;
- Asia Pacific organisations for which cloud is a core part of their business strategy are 2.5 times more likely (80%) to say organisational effectiveness had changed for the better, compared to only 29% of those who said cloud was a minor part of their transformation;
- Of the 13 countries surveyed, Malaysian organisations report the second lowest use of legacy systems (11%) and public cloud (17%) but second highest use of on premise data centres (41%);
- Compared to Malaysia, Singapore’s organisations are almost twice as likely use public cloud (31%) and almost half as likely to use on premise data centres (23%).
- Two thirds of Malaysian (68%) and Singaporean (64%) agree that data is more secure in the cloud than in-house; and security is cited as both the top benefit and greatest challenge for moving data, applications or processes to the cloud.

"These results show why cloud transformation is not just an IT issue, it's a business issue," said Leon Sayers, Regional Consulting Lead, Unisys Asia Pacific. "Nine in ten (92%) of Malaysian organisations that integrated cloud as a core part of their business strategy saw the greatest positive gains, compared to just 60% of those who did not. Rather than a 'lift and shift' approach, successful cloud implementations require the right framework in place at the outset, with continual innovation and updates over time."

The Future is Multi-Cloud
Despite nearly all respondents (94% in Malaysia and 97% in Singapore) saying they had migrated to the cloud to some degree, use of multi-cloud is still low (25% in Malaysia and 44% in Singapore) – in line with the global results.

However, Malaysian organisations using multi-cloud are more likely to see the cloud as being essential for security and staying competitive:

- All (100%) Malaysian multi–cloud users surveyed say that if they didn't move to the cloud they would be somewhat to extremely concerned about using legacy systems without the security to deal with today’s hackers, compared to 76% of Malaysian organisations surveyed;
- All (100%) Malaysian multi-cloud users surveyed say they are similarly concerned about being left behind as a technology laggard, outperformed by the competition and going out of business – compared to 59%, 62% and 65% respectively of all Malaysian organisations surveyed.

"A Multi-cloud strategy offers flexibility and choice, and recognises that not all data and applications need to be treated in the same way," explained Sayers. "A multi-cloud strategy helps organisations gain greater sovereignty over their data, spread their risk in case of downtime and increase the negotiating leverage to shop rates for different service needs from multiple vendors."

2019 Unisys Cloud Success Barometer: Looking at How Cloud is Meeting Expectations
The first Unisys Cloud Success Barometer surveyed more than 1,000 senior business and IT leaders across 13 countries in August and September 2019. Unisys gauged their attitudes on a wide range of cloud performance issues and created a barometer based on their feedback. The barometer score is calculated on a scale from zero to 100, based on how well cloud expectations are being met in six areas across business, competitive and IT benefits.
The Unisys Cloud Success Barometer score for Malaysia is 49, only slightly lower than the global average of 49.

https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/mnr-s3-prod/0149/000381_howwellhaveyourexpectationsbenmet_800.jpg

The top drivers for Malaysian organisations moving to the cloud are the desire for better IT and data security (65%), being agile (54%) and a competitive advantage (50%). Expectations for their cloud implementations were exceeded for driving innovation (88%), enabling a faster time to market (85%), being agile to match demand (85%) and better IT and data security (81%).

However, the benefits delivered fell short in the areas of reducing costs (47 said expectations were somewhat met/below expectation), increasing revenue (44%) and reducing headcount (43%).

Navigating the Path to Success
The survey identified several factors that improved the likelihood of a successful migration. Globally, organisations that used third-party support to help with their cloud adoption were 26% more likely to realise organisational improvements for the better compared to organisations that handled cloud migration in-house. In Singapore the results are even higher with organisations using third parties almost three times as likely to see improvements. Whereas in Malaysia, organisations using third parties were 11% less likely to see improvements.

"While no cloud migration is the same, there are several core building blocks that many successful migrations share. First, organisations must do a thorough planning assessment that looks at anticipated ROI, staff training needs, security risks and identifies where outside expertise is needed. Next, they need to establish a continuous integration/continuous delivery framework leveraging microservices, containers and DevOps. Lastly, having a cloud management portal is critical to providing end-to-end visibility for better monitoring and performance," said Sayers.

Methodology
The Unisys Cloud Success Barometer online survey of 728 IT leaders and 317 senior business leaders was conducted across 13 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, UK and USA during August-September 2019. The 90 Malaysian and Singaporean responses are from 56 IT leaders and 34 business leaders.

MPOCC LAUDS TIMELY CALL FOR WILDLIFE CONSERVATION IN SABAH

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council (MPOCC) applauds the call by the Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd. Shafie bin Haji Apdal, for plantations to be involved in elephant conservation efforts in the State.

MPOCC as the custodian of the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) scheme in the country, views this as an opportunity for greater collaborative partnership with the Sabah State government in creating a safer environment for its wildlife.

This is in line with MSPO Principle No 5, which addresses requirements to deal with sustainable management of oil palm plantation operations and includes an emphasis on protecting rare, threatened and endangered species and high biodiversity value areas.

In supporting the call by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie, MPOCC strongly advocates closer cooperation between the organisation, the Sabah Wildlife Department and plantations managers in the State. We believe that where human-wildlife conflict hotspots are present, these plantations can play a more active role in being vigilant and be the eyes and ears on the ground.

Additionally, MPOCC, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and other organisations such as East Malaysia Planters Association (EMPA) had been conducting roadshows and workshops with the relevant stakeholders, including those in the rural areas of Sabah, as part of our efforts to increase awareness on the mandatory MSPO certification scheme and the need to support the wildlife protection and conservation efforts in Sabah.

Loss of biodiversity concerns everyone and the environmental damage that ensues could be irreversible. As Malaysians, we must lay a stronger foundation to strengthen our conviction that our valued wildlife species need to be conserved to truly reflect our commitment towards the universal 5Ps of People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership.

PFIZER REINFORCES THE IMPORTANCE OF PREVENTION THIS WORLD PNEUMONIA DAY

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- To commemorate World Pneumonia Day 2019 on 12 November, Pfizer is encouraging adults age 65 years and older to learn more about the seriousness of pneumonia and the preventative measures they can take to help protect themselves. Pneumonia, which includes pneumococcal pneumonia, is a leading cause of death in children worldwide, but older adults are also at increased risk due to the age-related decline of the immune system.

“This World Pneumonia Day, Pfizer is encouraging adults to take steps to help prevent a potentially serious disease, through simple preventative lifestyle choices like getting vaccinated, eating well, and exercising regularly,” said Dr. Jerusha Naidoo, Country Medical Lead, Pfizer Malaysia. “We encourage adults 65 or older to talk to their health care provider about ways to help protect themselves.”

Pneumonia can also have a large impact on individuals, and adults with pneumonia may experience significant consequences due to the infection. For example, pneumonia can lead to potential complications like respiratory failure (which requires a breathing machine or ventilator) and sepsis (a condition in which there is uncontrolled inflammation in the body, which may lead to widespread organ failure). Symptoms such as weakness and fatigue can take several weeks to resolve.

One of the ways adults can help protect themselves and others from vaccine-preventable diseases, such as pneumococcal pneumonia, is by getting vaccinated with the recommended doses at the recommended times. Vaccines are an important tool to help prevent certain infectious diseases that cause health and financial burdens. Vaccination is also a key preventive measure and a key component of healthy aging.

PRIORITIZING FIRE SAFETY IN LEGOLAND HOTEL

Hotel successfully conducts scheduled fire drill

ISKANDAR PUTERI, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- LEGOLAND Hotel successfully conducted a scheduled fire drill this afternoon involving 120 staff members. The objectives of the drill were to reinforce fire safety practices amongst our hotel team and boost their knowledge on how to handle emergencies through practical training and education. The fire drill also serves as a platform to strengthen the working relationship between the Hotel’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the local Fire and Rescue Department.

During the drill, the Fire and Rescue Department simulated a real fire situation where there was a fire in one of the hotel rooms due to a carelessly discarded cigarette. The team was able to successfully contain and put out the fire whilst safely remove the “hotel guests” from inside the room. The team demonstrated the ability to take professional fire extinguishing actions and evacuation procedures should there be a real fire situation.

“The safety of our guests and staff is always our top priority. Our team members demonstrated emergency readiness during the fire drill today. We are grateful for the continuous support and assistance from the local Fire and Rescue Department during these simulation exercises. I am sure the drill has effectively strengthened our team’s ability of handling emergency situations,” Dharmendran Sundara Mogan, Safety & Security Manager, LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort shared.

A ROARING SUCCESS AS CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS SHOWCASE THEIR MUSICAL ABILITIES AT ONE-TWO-STAR TALENT SHOW

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Selangor Dredging Berhad (SDB), in collaboration with Milestone Productions, recently hosted the “One-Two-Star” Talent Show at Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur when various children with special needs performed songs inspired from the movies.

The talent show was an effort to further build confidence levels of these children, while showcasing their unique musical abilities that the world at large rarely gets to see.

It also formed part of SDB’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative after the success of the “One-Two-Juice” (a juice bar), “One-Two-Wash” (a car wash initiative) and “One-Two-Gift” (a soap-making project) programmes run by various special needs children.

Prior to the event, a workshop was held for all participants at Hotel Maya when coaches Dominic Lau and Joshua Gui provided these children with constructive feedback and encouragement.

SDB group managing director Ms Teh Lip Kim said that the purpose of the Talent Show was a way of educating the public about the hidden musical talents of these children.

“It is a rare honour and privilege for all of us to come up here as a family to show our support to all these special children and their families,” she said, in the company of her husband and two sons.

“As a mother of a special needs child, I fully understand just how challenging the journey can be for these children,” she shared. “That said, it’s an extremely fulfilling journey for both parents and children in discovering the true meaning of unconditional love, courage and resilience.”

Participants ranged from 10 to 22 years old, with every individual having gone through music therapy and lessons involving singing, and playing musical instruments like piano, violin and drums. A participant even showcased his deejaying skills by mixing songs on a beatpad. After each performance, judges Sharizan Borhan and Lee Kok Leong gave their comments, similar to a talent-show style.

Later, all 14 participants gathered for a finale performance singing to “We Will Rock You” to a huge applause from the audience comprising participating families, non-governmental organisations and members of the public.

SweeGen defends, protects Reb M intellectual property

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 -- Stevia-based sweetener company, SweeGen has defended and protected its production of Reb M by its highly titer-effective and cost-effective patent-protected process - Reb M produced via Reb D4.

SweeGen’s statement is in response to what it says were distorted claims about intellectual property made by PureCircle in the media today.

On this basis, SweeGen has no doubt that the upcoming patent litigation with its competitor, PureCircle will vindicate its rights in the Reb M marketplace.

In its recently published international patent application PCT/US/2017/056457, SweeGen, the exclusive licensee, disclosed its Reb M via Reb D4 process and expects the claims to grant.

SweeGen is confident that it will prevail not only in the upcoming litigation with PureCircle, but also in the marketplace for sweeteners generally, as being the pioneer of successful production of high purity non-GMO rebaudiosides, and in particular of Reb M.
