Ozow's online payment platform paves way for Open Banking in Africa

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 -- As there are over 49 million bank accounts in South Africa alone where users just need a convenient way to pay from them, Ozow’s secure online payment platform is leading payment innovation.

“As most people in the region go online mainly through their mobile devices (the same rings true for the rest of Africa) – and often pre-pay for airtime/data – transaction speed is essential. We commit to enabling payments in a few seconds,” said Ozow chief executive officer and co-founder, Thomas Pays in a statement.

Ozow’s latest product release in the form of a world first, patent-pending innovation called the Ozow PIN has also resulted in increased business growth.

This technology empowers users to tokenise payment and make any repeat purchases with the simple entry of a 4-digit PIN.

This innovation is already aggressively taking the lion’s share of the cash, card, and alternative payment options market by empowering users to transact anytime, anywhere online, or at point of sale, without the need for an app or registration.

Ozow can also be used for e-billing in partnership with SAGE and Xero, SMS payments via all major networks and QR codes.

The service is becoming available in five of South Africa’s 11 official languages, with plans to add the other languages in the coming months.

From the merchant’s perspective, Ozow acts as an additional layer of security to that of the existing banking infrastructure, keeping all transactions ultra-safe at all times and providing a safer environment than any other payment mechanism.

Secretary Elaine Chao Unveils Guidance Document For Regulation Of Hyperloop Months Ahead Of Schedule And Establishes Eligibility For Project Funding

Announcement shows USDOT’s commitment to advancing next-generation transportation technology

WASHINGTON, July 24 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Secretary Elaine Chao and the Non-Traditional and Emerging Transportation Technology (NETT) Council unveiled the guidance document on a clear regulatory framework for hyperloop in the United States.

“This guidance bridges the gap between innovator and regulator, prioritizes safety during development without hampering innovation, and promotes mutual awareness between industry and government,” said Secretary Elaine Chao during the live-streamed event.

The regulatory guidance document for hyperloop is the first of its kind in the world, further proving that the US intends to be the leader in the industry.

“Hyperloop offers a truly unique opportunity to lead the world in 21st century transportation,” said Sir Richard Branson, Founder of the Virgin Group. “It takes strong vision to break away from the inertia of the status quo and embrace these opportunities. The announcement today will help lay the groundwork for the United States to take that leadership.“

Virgin Hyperloop has been working closely with the NETT Council over the last year and a half, since its creation in March 2019, to advance its technology and ensure that they are able to deploy hyperloop safely and quickly.

This historic announcement not only provides a pathway for hyperloop regulation and deployment in the US, but also establishes hyperloop’s eligibility for federal funding for projects.

“We have determined that these hyperloop projects are just as eligible for grant as any maglev or magnetic levitation project,” said Finch Fulton, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy during the live-streamed event. “This includes the Federal Railroad Administration Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program, the Office of the Secretary BUILD and INFRA grants, and programs of that sort. This also means that they would be eligible for some of the Department’s loan and lending programs.”

“Secretary Chao and the NETT Council are working at an unprecedented speed to ensure that the United States is at the forefront of hyperloop development,” said Jay Walder, CEO of Virgin Hyperloop. “It’s clear that the USDOT shares our vision for infrastructure development as a way for the country to not just rebuild, but evolve as we emerge from this crisis.”

As an entirely new category of transportation, hyperloop will unlock exponential growth opportunities for cross-industry manufacturing and development jobs - across construction, aerospace, rail, automotive, aviation, electric vehicles, and autonomous control. Last month, Virgin Hyperloop announced a partnership with Spirit AeroSystems, one of the world’s largest aerospace manufacturers. Spirit AeroSystems engineers, fabricators, builders, supply chain and certification experts, and technicians will leverage relevant aerospace industry expertise to produce the hyperloop bogie – a clear example of adjacency opportunities in the sector.

About Virgin Hyperloop
Virgin Hyperloop is the only company in the world that has successfully tested hyperloop technology at scale, launching the first new mode of mass transportation in over 100 years. The company successfully operated a full-scale hyperloop vehicle using electric propulsion and electromagnetic levitation under near-vacuum conditions, realizing a fundamentally new form of transportation that is faster, safer, cheaper, and more sustainable than existing modes. The company is now working with governments, partners, and investors around the world to make hyperloop a reality in years, not decades. CORRECTING AND REPLACING SANGFOR CYBER SECURITY INCIDENT RESPONSE SERVICE: BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING!

HONG KONG, July 13 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Second paragraph, first sentence of release dated July 6, 2020, is updated to include a source link and should read: By 2021, a new organization will suffer a ransomware attack every 11 seconds, according to Cybersecurity Ventures.

The corrected release reads:

SANGFOR CYBER SECURITY INCIDENT RESPONSE SERVICE: BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING!

Sangfor Technologies, the leading vendor of network security in the APAC region, is proud to announce the launch of its Incident Response (IR) service, geared toward the unique and varied needs of small & medium organizations in the Asian market.

By 2021, a new organization will suffer a ransomware attack every 11 seconds, according to Cybersecurity Ventures. With small businesses a primary target of ransomware and the average cost of attacks now over $40,000, a new security response is needed to universalize security for all. While security services have only been available to large organizations at a prohibitive cost, this restriction is now a thing of the past!

“We are excited to offer this new security service to our customers. Previously security services were something exclusively reserved for large enterprises. However, we believe that every organization should not only be protected by network security devices, but security services as well, inspiring Sangfor to develop its Incident Response service,” says Kaden Zhang, President of Sangfor International Department. “Having a full, in-house security expert team is expensive, and with this new cost-effective service, customers can enjoy a high-level of protection before, during and after an attack.”

Advantages of Sangfor Incident Response:

1. Discovery of External Threat Attack Surfaces
External vulnerability assessment can simulate how an attacker performs reconnaissance, gathers information to identify attack surfaces exploitable by external threats. Identification and mitigation of potential threat attack surfaces greatly improve the overall security posture of an organization.

2. Security Awareness Enhancement
Any vulnerability or misconfiguration, no matter how insignificant, poses a degree of risk. External attack surface assessment services help organizations uncover attack surfaces from the attacker perspective, and effectively eliminate any weaknesses, minimizing the likeliness of attack and reducing overall security risk.

3. Security Skills Enhancement
User security skills are improved through interaction with the Sangfor IR unit, educating customers on how to investigate and identify existing, yet unknown vulnerabilities and misconfigurations. These increased skills allow customers to mitigate issues based on professionals’ recommendations, prepare remediation plans, and significantly reduce the possibility of a secondary or similar attack.

The probability of a ransomware attack is a very real threat to all organizations, regardless of size. Bold thinking and planning for this eventuality, with support from the Sangfor team are the key to ensuring the vitality of your business after a cyber-attack.

China Eastern Airlines discount package boosts tourism, hospitality businesses

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 -- Over 150,000 people enjoyed flights under the ‘fly at will’ air ticket discount package offered by China Eastern Airlines (China Eastern) during the past two weekends.

As the first-ever air ticket discount package launched in China that allows passengers to enjoy unlimited weekend flights till Dec 31, the package was released on June 18 at 3,322 yuan (about US$473.72). (US$1 = RM4.26)

As the COVID-19 pandemic has been effectively brought under control in China, 150,000 passengers flew to enjoy holidays or visit their family by using the ticket package, which has become a hot topic and a phenomenal economic activity in China.

The average passenger load factor of the China Eastern flights from Shanghai to more than 10 destinations rose by nearly 20 per cent, with the figure of some flights even surpassing 90 per cent, according to a statement.

Some popular flights have seen the proportion of ‘fly at will’ passengers exceed 90 per cent. Although the company has dispatched wide-body aircrafts like B777 and A350 to the hot flights, it still cannot fully meet passengers’ growing travel demands.

Other airlines in China have also launched similar products following the package. China Express recently launched similar air ticket packages, while Hainan Airlines announced its 12 airline companies would jointly launch an air ticket package with limited destinations.

China Eastern hopes its ‘fly at will’ can help boost businesses in tourism and hospitality, so that relevant industries can tide over the tough times together, said an executive of the service department of China Eastern.
