China International Import Expo 5th edition kicks off November

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- “Buoyed by its opening-up policy, continuous optimisation of the business environment and strong economic resilience, China will remain a hot investment destination in the years to come,” said global experts at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2022 in Davos, Switzerland.

In addition to China's own economic size, business leaders also agreed that China's approach and commitment to globalisation also matter. Chinese leaders have repeatedly reaffirmed commitment to economic globalisation and free trade, including during speeches at the WEF.

A major platform for international procurement, investment promotion, cultural exchanges and open cooperation, the China International Import Expo (CIIE) has been successfully held for four consecutive years, according to a statement.

It is widely regarded as an international public good for economic globalisation and multilateral trading system, as well as a pivotal carrier for building an open world economy and a community with a shared future for mankind.

Since its inception in 2018, the expo has been growing in scale and influence. According to a report on the business exhibition of the fourth CIIE, which took place from Nov 5-10, last year, over 2,900 companies from 127 countries and regions participated in the exhibition.

As the CIIE enters its fifth year, multinational exhibitors have continued to express hope in participating in the fifth edition of the trade fair in November. Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the fifth CIIE will be held from Nov 5 to 10 this year as scheduled.

At an online meeting held by the CIIE Bureau recently, 15 high-profile corporate executives from different industrial committees of the CIIE Enterprise Alliance expressed confidence in Shanghai's anti-epidemic fight and the resilience of the Chinese market.

The CIIE Bureau recently released several favourable measures to help exhibitors overcome difficulties in production and operation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors.

The registration deadline for the fifth CIIE has also been extended to July 31, 2022. To date, more than 75 per cent of the planned exhibition space of the 5th CIIE has been reserved.

More than 250 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders, as well as most of the world's top 10 companies in the pharmaceutical, medical equipment and automobile industries have confirmed their participation in the expo.

Opening-up is the hallmark of contemporary China. The CIIE demonstrates China's resolve to expand high-level opening up, share development opportunities with the world and make economic globalisation more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial for all.

Impulse Dynamics: First international implants of Optimizer Smart Mini system in Italy

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- Impulse Dynamics, a commercial-stage medical device company focused on delivering CCM therapy to people with heart failure, announced that the first implants in Europe for the newly launched Optimizer® Smart Mini device were recently completed in Italy.

According to a statement, the company announced the launch of the new technology on April 29, 2022, and the first U.S. implants on May 10, 2022.

In March 2022, the company announced that its quality management system received certification under the new European Union Medical Device Regulation.

The new components of the Optimizer Smart Mini system are equally important across international markets, including a rechargeable battery with a 20-year life and new internal technology with improved programming and potential for remote monitoring in a smaller design to make the implant procedure easier for patients and physicians.

“The pace of this international rollout is a reflection of our commitment to delivering innovation that is relevant to patients worldwide,” said Mateusz Zelewski, MD, Impulse Dynamics’ Vice President International.

“It is exciting to see how quickly we can increase access to new and better technology that offers hope for more patients living with heart failure.”

The Optimizer Smart Mini delivers CCM therapy, which consists of electric pulses applied to the heart between heartbeats and serves to enhance the performance of cardiac muscular contraction, making the heart work more efficiently without increasing the heart rate or the oxygen consumption of the cardiac muscle.

CCM therapy is currently indicated in Europe to reduce hospitalisations and improve physical exercise tolerance, quality of life, and functional status for a large population of patients with systolic heart failure who remain symptomatic despite guideline-directed medical therapy.

To date, CCM therapy has already been used to treat over 7,000 patients worldwide and is available in 44 countries. The therapy has been studied in almost 2,000patients and has appeared in more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles.
