FOREIGN DIPLOMATS TOUR HANGZHOU’S ANCIENT RUINS, TECH HUBS AND UNIVERSITY

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Diplomats from Chile, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan and Iraq toured Hangzhou in east China from Oct 17 to 19, visiting an ancient archaeological site, technology exhibitions and a university.

According to a statement, the delegation was invited by Haiwainet, part of People’s Daily, as part of the Zhejiang Tour for diplomatic envoys.

Chile’s Ambassador to China, Alfonso Silva said he was impressed by the Liangzhu civilisation and described the site as “a great heritage of which the Chinese people must be proud”.

The visit began on Oct 17 at the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City, which marks the 90th anniversary of its discovery this year. At the Liangzhu Museum and the Liangzhu Archaeological Site Park, the diplomats viewed jade cong, stone yue axes, earthen embankments and rice fields from the 5,000-year-old civilisation.

On Oct 18, the delegation visited exhibitions in Hangzhou’s new urban centre featuring local technology companies, including those known as the “Six Little Dragons” and the “New Eight Steeds”. The diplomats tried augmented reality glasses and played Gomoku, a traditional five-in-a-row board game, against artificial intelligence.

On Oct 19, at Zhejiang International Studies University, the diplomats viewed folk-art exhibits, tried Chinese calligraphy and made Chongyang cakes, a traditional snack for the Double Ninth Festival. They also met students to exchange views on cultural understanding.

The tour was guided by the Information Office of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism.

It was organised by the Zhejiang International Communication Center, with support from People’s Daily Haiwainet, the Hangzhou bureau of Zhejiang Daily Press Group and the university.

NANNING EXPANDS ASEAN GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT WITH TRADE, AI INNOVATION

A robot performs music at the China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, Guangxi.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Nearly 100 preliminary artificial intelligence (AI) cooperation agreements worth around two billion Chinese yuan were reached in Nanning during the recently concluded 23rd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO), including more than one billion Chinese yuan in planned cooperation with ASEAN countries.

The expo’s new AI marketplace featured more than 70 companies displaying over 500 products, from large AI models and AI chips to AI glasses and intelligent robots, generating transactions worth over 28 million Chinese yuan (around US$3.9 million). (US$1 = RM4.08).

Nanning, the capital of south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and permanent host of CAEXPO, is home to 1,552 AI-related companies, accounting for 57.3 per cent of Guangxi’s total, according to a statement.

ArcherMind Technology has set up its ASEAN headquarters in the city, with its robots used in schools in ASEAN countries including Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, while iFLYTEK has signed a strategic agreement with Nanning to develop AI applications for ASEAN markets in education, healthcare and urban governance.

In the first eight months of 2026, Nanning’s foreign trade rose 2.4 per cent year-on-year to 65.171 billion Chinese yuan. Trade with ASEAN reached 18.246 billion Chinese yuan, or 28 per cent of the total, while trade with Vietnam grew 18.6 per cent.

The Pinglu Canal, which opened on Sept 16, allows vessels of up to 5,000 tonnes to sail directly from Nanning to the Beibu Gulf. For cargo from southwest China, it shortens the inland waterway route to the sea by more than 560 kilometres compared with the route via Guangzhou Port.

Nanning is planning industrial development along the canal, including port upgrades at Liujing and a dedicated railway line to improve rail-water transport, while non-ferrous metals, green chemicals and equipment manufacturing industries are increasingly clustering along the route.

Generali Malaysia and Porsche Malaysia Bring Road Safety Lessons from the Racetrack to Students

Table
Generali Malaysia and Porsche Malaysia joined forces to promote safer journeys through a road safety education programme at Menara Generali for students from Suriana Welfare Society's PAL (Pathways to Achieve and Learn) Centres. Through interactive games, an inspiring sharing session with Team Porsche Malaysia race driver Naquib Azlan, and a road safety awareness talk by the Malaysia Road and Transportation Safety Association (MRTSA), students gained practical road safety knowledge and pledged to become Road Safety Champions.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Generali Malaysia and Porsche Malaysia (represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance Sdn. Bhd.) have taken their partnership beyond the racetrack, by bringing road safety education to students through a community programme designed to promote safer road habits among young Malaysians.

The initiative builds on Generali Malaysia's sponsorship and strategic partnership with Porsche Malaysia in the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia 2026. While the championship celebrates performance, precision, and skill on the track, the two organisations share a broader commitment to promoting responsibility and safer road use in everyday life. Held at Menara Generali as part of Generali Malaysia's Corporate Responsibility efforts, the programme introduced students from Suriana Welfare Society's PAL (Pathways to Achieve and Learn) Centres to practical road safety knowledge through a series of interactive activities and learning experiences.

The students explored the importance of staying alert around roads, understanding the risks of distracted walking, and practising safe habits as pedestrians, passengers, and future road users. Through hands-on activities, they learned how focus, good judgement and responsible decision-making can play a crucial role in keeping themselves and others safe.

A highlight of the event was a sharing session with Malaysian racing driver Naquib Azlan, who competes in the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia, representing Team Porsche Malaysia in the #17 911 Cup. Drawing from his experience in motorsport, Naquib spoke about the importance of discipline, focus and control behind the wheel, and how these qualities are equally important when using public roads.

The programme also included a road safety awareness session conducted by the Malaysia Road and Transportation Safety Association (MRTSA), providing students with practical guidance on road safety and responsible road behaviour.

"Protection is at the heart of what we do at Generali, and it extends beyond insurance. By helping young people understand the importance of road safety and responsible decision-making, we hope to empower them to make safer choices for themselves and those around them. We are proud to partner with Porsche Malaysia to bring these important lessons to the next generation," said Fabrice Benard, Chief Executive Officer of Generali Insurance Malaysia Berhad and Country Head for Generali entities in Malaysia.

“Motorsport is deeply embedded in Porsche's DNA, but beyond that, road safety remains a fundamental part of responsible driving. Through this collaboration with Generali Malaysia, we hope to inspire greater awareness among young Malaysians by equipping them with essential road safety knowledge and encouraging responsible habits from an early age. Education is the first step towards creating safer roads, and by reaching students today, we are helping to shape the drivers of tomorrow. We are proud to support initiatives like this and look forward to seeing its positive impact extend into the wider community,” shared Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Auto Performance.

As part of the programme, students made personal road safety pledges, committing to actions such as using pedestrian crossings, wearing helmets and seatbelts, avoiding dangerous road behaviour, and encouraging their peers to stay safe. Students who completed all activities and made their road safety pledge were recognised as Road Safety Champions.

By combining the excitement of motorsport with practical road safety education, Generali Malaysia and Porsche Malaysia hope to inspire safer road habits and reinforce the importance of protection both on and off the track.

Leadership changes bring client relationships and insights expertise closer together

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) --
Isentia is expanding the leadership roles of Ho Paik San and Karthi Puvanendran to bring client relationships and insights expertise closer together and support a more consultative approach to client work. Paik San will extend her current insights remit to include commercial leadership, while Karthi will take over accounts and insights leadership.

The changes build on clients’ longstanding trust in Isentia for media intelligence, social listening and advice. That trust provides the foundation for working more closely with clients to understand which developments could affect their organisation, how their audiences are responding and where to focus their communications efforts.

These discussions will connect Isentia’s analysis more directly to the decisions clients face. Teams will work with clients to interpret emerging reputation risks, assess whether messages are reaching their intended audiences and develop measurement approaches tied to communications and business objectives. Monitoring and reporting will provide the evidence for this advice.

“Good advice begins with understanding the business behind the brief. The same media trend can have very different implications for two organisations, depending on their priorities, audiences and circumstances. We want our teams to bring that understanding into every client conversation, so that our recommendations are grounded in the decisions clients actually face,” said Prashant Saxena, VP Revenue & Insights, SEA.

Paik San brings experience across marketing, media intelligence and communications strategy, with regional advisory work spanning finance, technology and consumer goods. Through this work, she has helped clients assess brand perception, campaign effectiveness and reputation risk, and contributed to projects recognised with multiple AMEC Gold awards. Her experience and established relationships with clients in Malaysia provide a strong foundation for bringing insights and commercial leadership together.

Karthi brings more than 12 years of industry experience in client management and account strategy with expertise in managing client expectations across government ministries, agencies and diverse corporate sectors. This role will connect the teams managing client relationships with those developing analysis and recommendations, helping them carry a shared understanding of each client’s priorities through the work they deliver.

Together, Paik San and Karthi will lead teams that know their clients, understand their priorities and turn Isentia’s intelligence into advice they can act on.
