HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA REMAINS PREFERRED CHOICE FOR GRADUATES AMONG TOP EMPLOYERS

6-Star Employability Ratings in Actuarial Science, Mathematics and Statistics & Quantity Surveying.

PUTRAJAYA, April 3 (Bernama) -- Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (“HWUM” or “the University”) has earned recognition as one of Talentbank’s Preferred Universities in the 2024 Talentbank National Graduate Employability Index (“2024 GE Index”).

The 2024 GE Index was based on an extensive survey of leading employers in Malaysia to identify their preferred choices for graduates, including EY Malaysia, Berjaya, PETRONAS, Shell, HSBC, Bank Negara Malaysia, Hong Leong Bank, Etiqa, Sunway, Intel, YTL Corporation, Hartalega, Nippon Paint, Toyota, Duopharma, among others.

Based on the outcome of the survey, the GE Index awarded HWUM several 6-Star Employability Ratings, particularly in Actuarial Science, Mathematics and Statistics, and Quantity Surveying.

This achievement highlights the University's commitment to academic excellence, faculty proficiency, and strong industry ties, which collectively equip students with the necessary tools and skills to excel in the professional realm. With an impressive track record of over 95 percent of HWUM graduates securing employment or pursuing further studies within six months of graduation, the University stands out as a premier choice for students aspiring to gain a competitive edge in their careers.

Reflecting on his academic journey and career prospects post-graduation, Christopher Kevin, a graduate of Statistical Data Science from the Class of 2023, shared his insights, “HWUM has been one of the best decisions in my academic journey. The diverse academic environment, numerous non-academic initiatives, and a wide range of extracurricular activities have enriched my campus life.”

“Despite experiencing half of my university life fully online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, HWUM made commendable efforts to keep both academic and non-academic activities engaging. The campus culture not only facilitated academic growth but also nurtured personal development, resulting in lasting memories and friendships.”

Christopher attributed the practical applications of theoretical knowledge through internships and projects as the cornerstone of his university experience at HWUM. Despite the internship programme not being mandatory in his faculty, he actively pursued and secured valuable opportunities during every summer break.

"HWUM enabled me to actively participate in various volunteering programs and projects to enhance my personal growth and preparedness for my career, including equipping me with skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, which play a pivotal role in preparing me to navigate challenges in both my personal and professional life," Christopher added.

In line with its Driven by Purpose philosophy, HWUM remains steadfast in delivering world-class programmes that nurture tomorrow’s purpose-driven leaders, equipped with competencies beyond academic excellence to mobilise positive impact on the world.
