KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama)
– The 60 finalists of the Maybank Go Ahead Challenge (MGAC) 2017 today
successfully completed their final task by fulfilling the wish of the 10
non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that MaybankHeart supports.
Maybank group chief human capital
officer Nora Abd Manaf said the task, called ‘Gaining Smiles by Gaining Miles’
required the contestants to recruit the public in Kuala Lumpur to join on
a charitable walk by testing their persuasive skills.
“The communities were encouraged to
download the MGAC's ‘Season of Smiles’ App and select their preferred NGO
and contribute by walking or running in the respective locations they are in.
The distance recorded was converted into items that were on the wish lists
of the 10 NGOs,” she told Bernama after the event here today.
Nora said the task was aimed to drive
awareness of the participants in lending a helping hand to the less fortunate
Malaysian.
Among the NGOs involved were Hope
Worldwide Malaysia, Great Heart Charity Association, Free Tree Society,
National Kidney Foundation, Society For The Severely Mentally Handicapped and
Aids Foundation.
Nora said all finalists from
15 countries including Indonesia, South Korea, United Kingdom and Malaysia
were the best-performing participants selected from more than 40,000 graduate
applicants and final-year university students across 108 nationalities.
She added the global finals
of the programme were held over 10 days such as in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur
by testing the participants’ insights on business matters, problem-solving
skills, mathematical ability, and ability to cope in a high-pressure
environment.
A contestant from Sri Lanka, Lakshan
Sanjana, 21, said MGAC had taught him the importance of time
management and how a good team or colleagues could make a big impact on
someone's working life.
Themed #TakeOverTomorrow, MGAC offers a
prize of US$40,000 (RM171,109) and the chance to join the Global Maybank
Apprentice Programme. The winners of the competition will be announced at a
ceremony tomorrow.
The MGAC, a business talent
competition, is part of the bank's aspirations to create a talent
pool of world-class future business leaders and competent financial experts for
the region.
