TELEDYNE PHOTOMETRICS ANNOUNCES NEW SCMOS CAMERA FOR SCIENTIFIC IMAGING - 400 FPS AND 10 MP RESOLUTION
New Kinetix sCMOS platform delivers an unmatched combination of speed, sensitivity, and field of view for scientific imaging
TUCSON, Ariz., Oct 23 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Teledyne Photometrics, a Teledyne Technologies [NSYE:TDY] company and global leader in scientific imaging, announces the release of its Kinetix sCMOS camera which delivers an unmatched combination of speed, sensitivity, field of view, and resolution.
The Kinetix is an all-new camera platform that builds on the success of the industry-defining Prime 95B and Prime BSI back-illuminated sCMOS cameras and redefines expectations of sCMOS camera speeds.
Designed for the most demanding and highest-speed scientific imaging techniques, the Kinetix ensures that extremely dynamic events are captured by acquiring over 400 frames per second. The near perfect 95% quantum efficiency coupled with Correlated Multi-Sampling (CMS) maximizes the amount of light captured, even at the dimmest levels, and the 10-megapixel sensor provides high-resolution imaging over a huge imaging area by leveraging 6.5 µm pixels that span an almost 30 millimeter field of view.
Key features:
· >400 frames per second, full-frame
· 10 megapixel resolution, 29 mm field of view
· 3200 x 3200 pixels, 6.5 x 6.5 µm pixel area
· >95% peak QE, Correlated Multi-Sampling (CMS)
“The Kinetix redefines expectations for scientific cameras. While the super-low noise and back-illumination help when there isn’t much light, the unmatched speed of the camera truly opens up possibilities for new discoveries,” said Rachit Mohindra, Senior Product Manager at Teledyne Photometrics. “Scientists have continuously requested faster pixel readout rates for cameras, and the Kinetix definitely delivers speed.”

World wants bigger chunk of fresh meat, forecast annual growth
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 -- Fresh meat represents 89 per cent of the total volume of meat sold globally and it is projected to grow by two per cent annually through 2023.
Euromonitor International has released the findings during its webinar ‘The future of meat: is consumption really decreasing?’, according to a statement.
“While environmental, health and ethical motives are driving consumers to cut back on meat in some developed markets, global meat sales are growing, mostly driven by demand in developing nations,” said Euromonitor International industry manager (food and nutrition), Tom Rees.
According to Euromonitor International’s health and nutrition survey, 21 per cent of the surveyed global consumers are trying to limit their meat intake, driving sales of global meat substitutes to reach US$23 billion by 2023. (US$1 = RM4.19)
Western Europe shows the slowest growth in total volume sales, both in fresh and processed meat, at 0.1 per cent and -0.1 per cent, respectively, through 2023.
In addition, Middle East and Africa recorded the most impressive growth at over four per cent through 2023, while in Asia Pacific, demand continues to grow as consumers relate meat consumption to health and social status.

OFFICIAL OPENING OF UNITED CAPS MANUFACTURING PLANT IN MALAYSIA POSITIONS COMPANY AS A GLOBAL PLAYER WITH CONTINUING GROWTH
New Malaysian plant is part of company’s ‘Close to You’ strategy; brand-new 127 SAFE-TE closure for baby food safety launched during event.
WILTZ, Luxembourg, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- UNITED CAPS, an international manufacturer of caps and closures, today reported that it held a formal grand opening for its new manufacturing plant located in Kulim, Malaysia. This plant positions UNITED CAPS as a global player with continuing growth, opening new opportunities in the Asian market with its ‘Close to You’ strategy.
During the event, UNITED CAPS launched a brand-new product designed specifically to meet the needs of the Asian market. 127 SAFE-TE breathes new life into baby food safety and convenience with impenetrable security features and a premium gold colour offering.
“We were pleased to welcome a large group of invited dignitaries and guests to the grand opening of our new plant in Kulim, Malaysia, yesterday,” says Benoit Henckes, CEO of UNITED CAPS. “The decision to build this plant was part of our Close to You strategy to better serve the Asian market. This proximity enables us to shorten delivery times and focus on products that are the most relevant to this important market region, as demand for our products continues to grow. It was also an opportunity to launch a new product, 127 SAFE-TE, our next-generation closure for infant nutrition. As we celebrate our 80th anniversary, we are also celebrating our transition from a European to a fully global organisation. The event was carried out live in all of our other subsidiaries throughout Europe as well.”
Congratulating United Caps Kulim on its opening, Dato’ Azman Mahmud, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) said, “We are excited that UNITED CAPS is committed to Malaysia by establishing its first state-of-the-art manufacturing outfit outside of Europe to serve its customers in the entire Southeast Asian region. We are proud to be part of this endeavour. As at June 2019, MIDA has approved a total of 19 manufacturing projects from Luxembourg worth more than RM 1.4billion of investments into Malaysia.”
“We trust that this project will serve as a catalyst for us to further engage with more stakeholders in strategising the way forward for the industries to adopt elements of Industry 4.0. MIDA would like to thank the company for its confidence in Malaysia’s capability. We will continue to work closely with other government agencies in providing our full support to ensure the growth of the company in the country,” added Dato’ Azman.
As the market reference for snap caps and scoops for tins of infant milk powder over the past 80 years, UNITED CAPS continues to develop and improve its line of infant nutrition closures. The new SAFE-TE line takes UNITED CAPS offerings for infant nutrition products to the next level, addressing the need in the Asian market for increased tamper evidence
(TE) indicators and a more premium look. Like our popular PROTECSCOOP, SAFE-TE is a flip-top hinged closure whose innovative design allows easy preparation of infant feeding bottles. 127 SAFE-TE’s tamper-evident band presents highly visible evidence of any tampering with a unique ‘drop down’ lock that makes it incredibly obvious if the product has been opened. Thanks to the new flex band, it is literally impossible for a malevolent actor to remove the closure, tamper with the contents, and return the closure to its original condition. UNITED CAPS’ award-winning anti-counterfeiting solutions add even greater levels of reassurance. SAFE-TE’s contamination-free foil-sealed chamber protects the included scoop until use, and an integrated hook keeps the scoop handy for further use. SAFE-TE is offered in the four standard UNITED CAPS colours plus a premium gold, which offers the overall look of higher quality and standout shelf appearance that is a growing requirement in Asian markets. Advanced in-mould labelling options further enhance opportunities for brands to differentiate themselves. For brands implementing SAFE-TE, there are minor or no changes required to existing capping/filling lines. 127 SAFE-TE is available in 127 mm, with a 99 mm solution in the pipeline. “We were extremely pleased with the attendees’ warm reception of the new SAFE-TE line, which will be available in both Asian and European versions,” adds Henckes. “We look forward to getting this product to the market, and to welcoming other visitors to see our state-of-the-art facilities.” Production of SAFE-TE for the Asian market will begin in Kulim in September 2020.
80 Years Young
Reaching its 80th anniversary is a significant milestone that UNITED CAPS is celebrating throughout 2019. “Our long heritage in continued success in this business is a powerful endorsement of the level of knowledge and expertise we have been able to accumulate over the years,” Henckes remarks. "Our legacy is one of the progress, but we are certainly not resting on our laurels. We are looking ahead to continued and significant innovation during our next 80 years, with a platform designed to continue our growth and progression. We are excited about what comes next!"

During four days, an interview group, comprised of reporters from overseas media agencies such as the European Pressphoto Agency, Basque Television of Spain, and South Korea's Asia Economy, were able to observe examples of Shaanxi's rapid development and change in industrial manufacturing and agriculture, as well as in environmental protection, culture and sports, and so on.
The interview group visited Xi'an, Baoji, Weinan, and the Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Industries Demonstration Zone, as well as some other places. They went to some enterprises and parks, including the Shaanxi Automobile Commercial Vehicle Group, the BYD Xi'an New Energy Industrial Base and the Yangling Professional Farmer Entrepreneurship and Innovation Park. The development of the automobile industry, the spread of modern agriculture and professional farming practices in the province attracted particular attention from the overseas media representatives.
At the BYD Xi'an New Energy Industrial Base, reporters visited the new energy automobiles production workshop. Members of the group enjoyed a test drive in BYD's new-generation new energy car -- the Tang EV. "These enterprises have developed very well, which impresses me," said PARK SUN MI, a reporter from South Korea's Asia Economy, "I went on a test drive in a BYD new energy car. It is dynamic and really powerful, as well as environment-friendly."
Mr. Sin, chief reporter with KCNA in China, said, "Huge input into new energy in China is inseparable from the environmental protection measures initiated by the government. An understanding of developments in Shaanxi's automobile industry has demonstrated to me the growth of the Chinese economy."
In the Yangling Professional Farmer Entrepreneurship and Innovation Park, the reporters observed examples of modern agricultural development in China when they had a chance to taste some greenhouse-cultivated fruit and vegetables. Maryna Belkova from the magazine Russia and China said: "In Yangling I saw many advanced planting and cultivation technologies, and I will report on these observations. I hope that China and Russia will increasingly conduct exchange and cooperation in agriculture."

SARAWAK ENERGY JOINS LEAGUE OF LEADING INTERNATIONAL BRANDS THAT ARE EVOLVING IN 4IR
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- SAP, the world’s largest enterprise applications provider, has called upon local businesses to make the transition into becoming ‘intelligent enterprises’ to realise greater productivity and efficiencies in the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR). “Intelligent enterprises are empowered to help maximize the value of an enterprise's data assets and turn the data into precious insights that help empower employees to operate with increased visibility, focus and agility,” said Rachel Barger, Chief Operating Officer, SAP Asia Pacific and Japan. “Intelligent enterprises are better equipped to respond to individual customer needs, engage talent in new ways and create disruptive business models that are critical industry imperatives,” she added, mentioning Sarawak Energy Bhd (Sarawak Energy) as a “visionary intelligent enterprise” that stands to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Sarawak Energy generates, transmits, distributes and retails electricity on behalf of the state of Sarawak. “Sarawak Energy’s core business activities revolve around the generation, transmission, distribution and retail of electricity. We generate power by capitalising on Sarawak’s abundant indigenous resources – hydro, coal and gas – and supply electricity to our customers throughout Sarawak and beyond through an extensive network,” its senior manager (applications portfolio) Zaliha Mohd-Ali said during a presentation at the Intelligent Enterprise Conference held recently. “Technology is integral toward our vision of ‘transforming Sarawak Energy into a digital utility powerhouse’, and one of our core foundations is based on SAP,” said Zaliha, adding that the company has installed various SAP applications enterprise-wide. She cited the integrated human resources management system called the ‘Sarawak Energy People System’ as an example of improving productivity among employees. “Previously, all the different tools were in various areas. Now that we have consolidated them into one encompassing system, employees can save more time and resources,” she said, explaining that, among others, employees have access to performance tools on their mobile devices. “Even leave application can be made from their mobile devices,” Zaliha added. Sarawak Energy has also embraced SAP Concur in an effort to gain more visibility into its travel and expense (T&E) spend, while also providing employees with user-friendly experiences through an integrated travel and expenses management solution. SAP Concur is renowned for its completely connected spend management solution encompassing travel, expense, invoice, compliance and risk. On its fleet management system based on the SAP Leonardo Vehicle Insights digital innovation system, Zaliha said that they are now fewer accidents involving Sarawak Energy vehicles and this has resulted in increased safety awareness of drivers due to the IoT (internet-of-things) technology which helped monitoring vehicles in real time. Sarawak Energy is also currently studying SAP S/4 HANA for as part of its ongoing digital transformation,” Zaliha said. “SAP S/4 HANA helps to reduce obstacles associated with legacy enterprise resource planning applications,” said Barger, adding that the intelligent suite of applications and platform from SAP is ‘future ready’ and helps enterprises quickly adopt advanced technologies. Today, SAP serves 437,000 customers in more than 180 countries worldwide, including 92% of Forbes Global 2000 companies and 98% of the 100 most valued brands. Source: SAP Malaysia |

INITIAL HYGIENE MALAYSIA IN SUPPORT OF GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY - CLEAN HANDS FOR ALL
Three (3) steps hand hygiene practice - Wash, Dry and Sanitise |
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- 15 October 2019 is the day we celebrate Global Handwashing Day (GHD) worldwide together. This is an initiative started by the Global Handwashing Partnership in 2008 to help world leaders advocate the importance of proper handwashing to their respective local communities. With the first GHD held in 2008, over 120 million children in more than 70 countries have better access to hand washing facilities which allow them to wash their hands properly.
This year Global Handwashing Day’s theme is “Clean Hands for All”, making the push to leave no one behind in Sustainable Development Agenda. Besides children, handwashing practice applies to adults as well, especially in their daily routines at home to workplace. Research from WHO shows that 40% of the world's population has no access to basic handwashing facilities. Inadequacy in handwashing facilities can easily put individuals at higher risk of contracting diseases that may impact their health, education, and economic outcomes.
Handwashing is an effective way to prevent the spread of germs. But, are you washing your hands correctly? Germs could be picked up from multiple touchpoints through your hands when you travel to your workplace daily, from the first touch at your house door or public transport handles to your office entrance and washroom. Germs can stay alive on hands up to 3 hours and harmful bacteria such as Salmonella and E.Coli are more likely to spread through cross-contamination. If you do not wash your hands properly, infection continues to spread even more when food is involved, eg. before food preparation takes place, likewise before and after eating. Hence, proper hand washing behaviour is critical to ensure a healthy hygiene level in the workplace.
“Providing proper washroom facilities is important to show your employees that you care about their wellbeing. With these hygiene facilities, it helps to cultivate good hand hygiene habits by washing, drying and sanitising our hands. Let’s reduce the spread of germs and health risk by creating a hygienic working environment to motivate your employees and eventually helps to increase work productivity for better business performance in the long run,” said Ms. Carol Lam, the Managing Director of Rentokil Initial Malaysia.
Initial Hygiene Malaysia is promoting good workplace hygiene through the Hygiene Detective Campaign. Initial Mobile Hand Sanitiser and Medixair Air Steriliser for your workplace are up for grabs. Find out more here: http://bit.ly/hygienedetective2019.

MPI continues strong commitment to drive agri-commodity industry's growth
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 -- The Primary Industries Ministry (MPI) will continue to be highly committed in driving further the growth of the country's agri-commodity industry.
Its minister, Teresa Kok Suh Sim, said it was ready with programmes and initiatives to continue efforts towards improving the sector's contribution towards strengthening the country's economy based on the 2020 Budget's four thrusts.
The thrusts are driving economic growth in the new economy and digital era; investing in Malaysians; creating a united, inclusive and equitable society; and revitalising public institutions and finances.
In a statement issued after the 2020 Budget tabling today, Kok said MPI had been given a budget allocation of RM670.15 million, comprising RM259.52 million for operating expenditure and RM410.62 million for development spending.
She noted that the government, through the first thrust's Strategy 4: Strengthening Economic Diversity, was focusing on efforts to add value to the commodities sector specifically.
This includes giving a RM550 million oil palm replanting loan fund for smallholders, collateral-free, at an interest rate of two per cent per annum, with a tenure of 12 years including a four-year moratorium on repayment. The replanting will be undertaken using the latest seedlings and also in compliance with Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil standards to ensure better productivity and marketability.
Other allocations include RM27 million to support Malaysian Palm Oil Board's efforts to market palm oil internationally and counter anti-palm oil campaigns, RM100 million for the Rubber Production Incentive (IPG) for 2020, RM30 million for research and development matching grants for industry-academia collaborations to develop higher value added downstream uses of palm oil, as well as RM150 million to facilitate crop integration for chili, pineaplle, coconut, watermelon and bamboo.
“With the global economic growth forecast (for 2019) falling to 3.2 per cent, 2020 is seen as a challenging year for the agri-commodities sector.
“Nevertheless, MPI will continue to focus on the primary industries sector that is a significant contributor to the country's economic growth and a catalyst towards boosting the income of people in rural areas,” Kok said.

HYDE MARINE ANNOUNCES THAT HYDE GUARDIAN-US™ BALLAST WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM HAS COMPLETED ALL USCG TYPE APPROVAL TESTING REQUIREMENTS WITH DNV-GL
The Hyde GUARDIAN-US (Universal Service) completes all required testing under 46CFR162.060 and the new IMO Revised G8 Requirements moving it closer to U.S. Coast Guard Type Approval, another IMO Type Approval, and verifying efficacy in all salinity ranges.
Pittsburgh, PA, Oct 7 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hyde Marine, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Calgon Carbon Corporation, has announced the completion of shipboard testing in accordance with the DNV-GL created QAPP (Quality Assurance Project Plan) under the supervision of a DHI test team.
Steve Schott, Calgon Carbon’s President and CEO said, “This is an important achievement as it was our last phase of testing required in order to apply for USCG Type Approval. It was critical to meet our customers’ needs by testing in varied and challenging conditions.”
The final tests were conducted in challenging ‘sweet’ fresh water with less than 1 psu, completing shipboard testing in all three salinities. This testing was performed under the direction and supervision of DNV-GL which is serving as an Independent Laboratory per the requirements for U.S. Coast Guard Type Approval testing. The completion of tests in all three salinity ranges and at multiple temperatures and spanning seasons proves both the function and robust design of the chemical-free Hyde GUARDIAN-US™ Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS).
Hyde Marine is one of the world’s most successful ballast water treatment (BWT) technology companies with more than 500 of its ballast water treatment systems sold to date. The Hyde GUARDIAN-US BWTS uses space efficient filtration and ultraviolet disinfection to treat ships' ballast water to prevent the spread of invasive species from port to port.
“Hyde Marine is very pleased to have completed our testing requirements,” said Chris Todd, Executive Director of Calgon Carbon UV Technologies/Hyde Marine. “Using one of our first customers as an upgrade platform to prove we could retrofit one of our earliest systems to our newest product was a milestone in which Hyde Marine takes great pride. Our platform proved a strenuous test of our system’s functionality as we work to define the limits of machine operation and disinfection efficacy. We are very satisfied with DHI’s analytical approach as well as their enthusiasm to challenge our system in the shipboard testing environment.”
The Hyde GUARDIAN-US BTWS was tested with water containing organism counts far exceeding IMO and U.S. Coast Guard testing requirements and was tested with water with UV transmittance down to 40% UVT. “We are confident that our system can perform to the expectations of our clients anywhere their vessels may go,” said Todd.
Hyde Marine will now complete the application process and expects to submit their application to the U.S. Coast Guard by the end of 2019.
