CLOUDFLARE, DATABRICKS PARTNERSHIP TO BRING MLFLOW CAPABILITIES TO DEVELOPERS

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Cloudflare Inc has announced a continued collaboration with Databricks, the Data and artificial intelligence (AI) company, to bring MLflow capabilities to developers building on Cloudflare’s serverless developer platform.

“Together with Databricks we can offer a comprehensive and optimized platform to support a wide spectrum of AI workflows, models and applications,” said Cloudflare chief executive officer and co-founder, Matthew Prince.

Cloudflare is joining the open source MLflow project as an active contributor to bridge the gap between training models and easily deploying them to the company’s global network, where AI models can run close to end-users for a low-latency experience.

In this new phase of partnership and collaboration on MLflow, an open-source platform for managing the machine learning (ML) lifecycle created by Databricks, Cloudflare and Databricks are closing the loop on how AI models are quickly and easily deployed to the edge.

With this new partnership, developers will be able to train models utilising Databricks’ data-centric AI platform, then deploy those models to Cloudflare’s developer platform and global network, where hyper-local inference is deployed on the edge, to complete the AI lifecycle.

Developers building on Cloudflare Workers AI will be able to leverage MLflow compatible models for easy deployment into Cloudflare’s global network, while also able to use MLflow to efficiently package, implement, deploy and track a model directly into Cloudflare’s serverless developer platform.

According to a statement, Databricks and Cloudflare already collaborate to simplify the AI lifecycle by making sharing data simpler and more affordable through Delta Sharing with R2 storage.

Cloudflare’s R2 is a zero egress, distributed object storage offering, allowing data teams to share live data sets and AI models with Databricks, easily and efficiently, eliminating the need for complex data transfers or duplications of data sets, and with zero egress fees.

A connectivity cloud company, Cloudflare empowers organisations to make their employees, applications and networks faster and more secure everywhere, while reducing complexity and cost.

CLOUDFLARE LAUNCHES THE MOST COMPLETE PLATFORM TO DEPLOY FAST, SECURE, COMPLIANT AI INFERENCE AT SCALE

Introduces Workers AI for end-to-end infrastructure needed to scale and deploy AI models efficiently and affordably for the next era of AI applications

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 29 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leading connectivity cloud company, today announced that developers can now build full-stack AI applications on Cloudflare’s network. Cloudflare’s developer platform will provide the best end-to-end experience for developers building AI applications, enabling fast and affordable inference without the need to manage infrastructure. As every business, from startups to enterprises, looks to augment their services with artificial intelligence, Cloudflare’s platform is empowering developers with the velocity to ship a production-ready application quickly, with security, compliance, and speed built in.

Business leaders – from Fortune 1000 companies looking to augment their services with AI, to AI startups on a mission to build the next culture-defining application – want to ship production-scale AI-powered applications. Organizations are trying to move quickly to realize value fast. However, they face challenges like rapidly ballooning and opaque costs to deploy AI and ensuring customer data remains private and in compliance with regulations. Developers are facing a slew of new vendors, requiring them to understand new tools quickly and connect many complex, disparate services together. C-level business leaders are looking to optimize costs amid expensive technology, tools, and staffing.

“Cloudflare has all the infrastructure developers need to build scalable AI-powered applications, and can now provide AI inference as close to the user as possible. We’re investing to make it easy for every developer to have access to powerful, affordable tools to build the future,” said Matthew Prince, CEO and co-founder, Cloudflare. “Workers AI will empower developers to build production-ready AI experiences efficiently and affordably, and in days, instead of what typically takes entire teams weeks or even months.”

“As enterprises look to maximize their operational velocity, more and more of them are turning to artificial intelligence,” said Stephen O'Grady, Principal Analyst with RedMonk. “But it's critical to deliver a quality developer experience around AI, with abstractions to simplify the interfaces and controls to monitor costs. This is precisely what Cloudflare has optimized its Workers platform for.”

“Garmin is alongside our users for all their runs, workouts, and outdoor adventures, and we want to ensure that our watches and devices' power can last weeks and months instead of hours or days,” said Aaron Dearinger, Edge Architect, Garmin International. “We're excited for Cloudflare's innovations to ensure AI is performant, fast, close to users, and importantly privacy-first. This holds a lot of potential to us as we aim to bring more advanced fitness, wellness, and adventure insights to our users as they explore.”

Introducing Workers AI: Industry’s First Serverless AI at Scale

Today, Workers AI is delivering a simple, affordable way for developers to run AI models on Cloudflare’s global network. Through significant partnerships, Cloudflare will now provide access to GPUs running on Cloudflare’s massive global network to ensure AI inference can happen close to users for a low-latency end-user experience. When combined with our Data Localization Suite to help control where data is inspected, Workers AI will also help customers anticipate potential compliance and regulatory requirements that are likely to arise as governments create policies around AI use. Cloudflare’s privacy-first approach to application development can help companies keep their promises to their customers by ensuring data used for inference is not used for training LLMs. Cloudflare currently supports a model catalog to help developers get started quickly, with use cases including LLM, speech to text, image classification, sentiment analysis and more.

Introducing Vectorize: A Vector Database That Speeds Up Your AI Workflows

Cloudflare’s new vector database, Vectorize, enables developers to build full-stack AI applications entirely on Cloudflare: from generating your embeddings with the built-in models in Workers AI and indexing them in Vectorize, to querying them and storing source data in R2. With Workers AI and Vectorize, developers no longer have to glue multiple pieces together to empower their apps with AI and machine learning – they can do it all on one platform.

Vectorize also benefits from Cloudflare’s global network, allowing vector queries to happen closer to users, reducing latency and overall inference time. It also integrates with the wider AI ecosystem, allowing developers to store embeddings generated with OpenAI and Cohere, so that teams can bring embeddings they already have and still benefit from Vectorize when it comes to scaling AI-apps to production.

Introducing AI Gateway: Observability and Scale for AI

Today, Cloudflare is introducing AI Gateway to make AI applications more reliable, observable, and scalable. According to the latest forecasts from IDC, AI spending is expected to balloon to $154 billion this year and increase to more than $300 billion in 2026. However, developers, and C-suite leaders have no way of understanding how money is being spent across AI infrastructure, or how many and from where queries are happening.

Developers should be able to focus on what they’re building, not the infrastructure, scaling, costs, or observability pieces behind it. AI Gateway will give developers observability features to understand AI traffic like the number of requests, number of users, cost of running the app, and duration of requests. Additionally, developers can manage costs with caching and rate limiting. With caching, customers will be able to cache answers across repeated questions, reducing the need to constantly make multiple calls to expensive APIs. Rate limiting will help to manage the malicious actors and heavy traffic in order to manage growth and costs, giving developers more control over how they scale their applications.

CLOUDFLARE POWERS PRIVACY ENHANCING FEATURES IN MICROSOFT EDGE SECURE NETWORK

Integration provides extra layer of protection when browsing the web and visiting unfamiliar sites, ultimately reducing risk and enhancing security for Internet users

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 29 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leading connectivity cloud company, today announced that Microsoft Edge is leveraging Cloudflare’s Privacy Proxy technology, a key part of Cloudflare’s privacy stack, to enable its Edge Secure Network feature. This integration will allow Microsoft Edge users who opt in to browse the Internet more privately, without being tracked across websites.

When people browse the Internet they leave a trail of their activities – where they've been, how they spent their time on a specific website, what they may have purchased, and other private details. This type of behavior is often tracked or surveilled to serve more advertisements, monitor the activities of high profile individuals, or censor content that's deemed harmful or offensive. This ultimately creates a treasure trove of personal data for threat actors that is ripe for the picking, trading, and selling. To combat this, routing a user’s traffic through a secure, privacy-respecting network can mask their device's IP addresses, encrypt their data in transit, and make it harder for malicious actors to see a user’s true location and their web activity.

Cloudflare’s privacy-first approach, paired with Microsoft Edge Secure Network, supercharges Internet users’ ability to access potentially unsafe URLs – such as those served over an insecure HTTP connection – securely, routing traffic through an encrypted tunnel. This integration provides Edge users with:
  • Automatic browser traffic security: Users can enable Microsoft Edge Secure Network to automatically turn on and secure their browser traffic, sending requests via Cloudflare’s network and hiding their IP address and browser metadata from third party trackers
  • Connection encryption: It will encrypt a user’s connection to the websites they’re visiting to help protect their metadata from being exposed to third party trackers
  • Online tracking prevention: When Edge Secure Network is active for a site, Internet service providers will not be able to collect browsing data such as details about which websites are visited, and online entities will not be able to use IP addresses for profiling and sending users targeted ads.
  • Location privacy: Using Microsoft’s Edge Secure Network, users’ traffic will appear as if coming from a Cloudflare IP address, while still maintaining location accuracy for their search results, directions for maps, and social media content.
“Today’s privacy headlines are sensationalist and often miss the mark when it comes to the foundational issues that disrupt a users’ ability to maintain anonymity and keep their personal data secure. While legislation and reactionary calls for action can be helpful in attempts to catch up with the rapid pace of the Internet, it is imperative to shift towards proactive measures like the adoption of privacy-enhancing technology,” said Matthew Prince, CEO at Cloudflare. “This integration with Microsoft Edge will give Internet users peace of mind when it comes to connecting to public Wi-Fi at coffee shops or airports, shopping online, and masking the original sin of the internet – IP addresses.”

“We’re excited to be working with Cloudflare because of its reputation for building privacy-forward technologies and deep involvement in developing the next generation of open privacy-enabling protocols,” said Andrew Nolan, Principal Product Manager for Microsoft Edge. “This integration ensures privacy and balances performance, giving our users protection in the moments they need it the most. Embedding privacy preserving technology into the Microsoft Edge browser demonstrates our continued commitment to provide our users with advanced security and peace of mind as they browse online.”

ANGLICARESA CREATES FOUNDATION FOR PERSONALISED SERVICES WITH BOOMI

  • South Australian not-for-profit reduces integration times by 30 per cent with Boomi’s award-winning integration platform. Boomi replaces Microsoft Azure Integration Services as AnglicareSA works towards single customer view across 62,500 constituents
  • AnglicareSA joins approximately 20,000 organisations around the world in selecting Boomi’s category-leading integration platform as a service (iPaaS) for better business outcomes
SYDNEY, Sept 29 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Boomi™, the intelligent connectivity and automation leader, today announced not-for-profit (NFP) AnglicareSA has chosen the Boomi Platform to pave the way to improve personalised services by centralising its data to better understand the needs of the 62,500 constituents it supports.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here:
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20230918877272/en/

AnglicareSA has provided a diverse range of programs – including housing, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) services, Aboriginal services, aged care, foster care, emergency assistance, and financial counselling – to South Australians for more than 150 years. This required managing and running dozens of systems and applications, with disconnected data across cloud and on-premises environments. After evaluating several options, AnglicareSA selected the Boomi Platform to integrate its technology investments and ensure information is available to its 1,800 employees and volunteers when they need it.

“Delivering diverse services requires us to have diverse systems – systems that weren’t designed to communicate with one another. This left us with data inconsistencies and made it difficult to understand the constituents who rely on us,” said Brett Rowe, Manager for Application Support at AnglicareSA. “Boomi serves as the stable foundation we need to ensure reliable system integration so we can continue to improve our services, and tailor them around the unique needs of South Australians.”

AnglicareSA uses Boomi’s integration platform as a service (iPaaS) to connect business-critical applications, including TechnologyOne enterprise resource planning (ERP), Salesforce Lumary, Rapid Global workforce management software, ELMO’s human resources (HR) software, and Microsoft ActiveDirectory and SQL databases. Having upskilled through Boomi’s training program, AnglicareSA’s application team developed and now manages integrations internally, which has generated significant cost savings.

AnglicareSA selected Boomi to replace Microsoft Azure integration services, and in the process eliminated complex point-to-point integrations, which were proving difficult to maintain and support.

“The low-code architecture of the Boomi Platform has made integration at least 30 per cent faster and will allow us to quickly and easily scale our integration capabilities as more cloud applications enter the business,” said Rowe. “Some projects that previously took more than a month are now completed in one week.”

“Additionally, the maturity of the Boomi Platform gives us richer capabilities, and handling integrations internally means funds that would previously have been spent on support can be reinjected into our community services. Since we introduced Boomi in early 2023, we are more agile, responding to requests from the business and employees rapidly, sparing the team from manual data entry and resolving complex integration issues,” added Rowe.

“In a sector where every detail matters, care programs’ staff need to trust that the digital systems underpinning their businesses can accurately serve rich information,” said Nathan Gower, Director, Australia and New Zealand at Boomi. “Switching to Boomi has helped AnglicareSA better understand the needs of its constituents and afforded its IT team the ability to move fast and leave complex integration behind.”

AVIA SOLUTIONS GROUP CHAIRMAN SHARES INSIGHTS ON AI IN AEROSPACE INDUSTRY

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- Chairman of Avia Solutions Group, Gediminas Ziemelis has shared predictions regarding the areas where artificial intelligence (AI) in aviation will make a massive difference.

According to a statement, the use of AI in aviation goes beyond customer support chatbots and price comparison tools for travellers.

While these applications will definitely stay and become ubiquitous, the real disruption will come from optimising the “hard” areas of aviation, from revenue management to evaluating the likelihood of a strike.

An accomplished Lithuanian entrepreneur, Ziemelis said AI tools are able to unlock true dynamic pricing; maintaining engine health; planning the most efficient route; predicting strikes; improving workflows in-flight; helping pilots and crew maintain their mental health; and predicting the probability of Airworthiness Directives (AD), among others.

In the airline business, revenue management has never been an easy game, but the stakes are even higher in the post-COVID. AI can help improve the tough task of analysing historical data and calculating the right price, taking into account the client’s location and a myriad of other factors.

Predictive maintenance has been an integral part of maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) for quite some time now, with sensors helping airlines determine when and what needs to be fixed or replaced. AI can use both real-time sensor data and predictive historical fault patterns to reduce downtime and overall costs of maintenance.

With AI tools able to plan the most efficient route, AI-enabled platforms can accelerate decision-making for operators, helping them harness not just the power of historical data but also of predictive mechanisms that, together, generate an actionable and clear picture.

While strikes in aviation usually make headlines because of the disruption they have on travellers’ plans, the fact that airlines can lose tens if not hundreds of millions per strike is often overlooked.

AI can analyse not just technical but also sociological data, a model could be designed to help airlines predict a potential strike and be better prepared for potential negotiations.

Furthermore, AI can serve as a helper not just to the staff on the ground but also to the cabin crew. It is not just about making routine tasks easier, a properly trained tool can offer expert advice on managing the aircraft and making quick, informed decisions, especially when the pressure is on and quick decisions are vital.

SWITCHING TO CLOUDFLARE CUTS CARBON EMISSIONS UP TO 96 PCT

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Cloudflare Inc, the security, performance, and reliability company helping to build a better Internet, has shared a new independent report published by Analysys Mason.

The report found that switching enterprise network services from on premises devices to Cloudflare’s cloud-based services can cut related carbon emissions up to 96 per cent, depending on the current network footprint.

According to Cloudflare in a statement, the report is one of the first of its kind to calculate potential emissions savings achieved by replacing enterprise network and security hardware boxes with more efficient cloud services.

Its chief executive officer and co-founder, Matthew Prince said the best way to reduce information technology (IT) infrastructure’s carbon footprint is to move to the cloud.

“At Cloudflare, we have built one of the world’s most efficient networks, getting the most out of every watt of energy and every one of our servers. That is why, with Cloudflare, companies can help hit their sustainability goals without sacrificing security, speed, performance or innovation,” he said.

The greatest reduction comes from consolidating services, which improves carbon efficiency by increasing the utilisation of servers that are providing multiple network functions. On premises devices are designed to host multiple workloads and consume power constantly, but are only used for part of the day and part of the week.

Cloud infrastructure is shared by millions of customers, often worldwide, thus enabling cloud providers to achieve economies of scale that result in less downtime, less waste and lower emissions.

Furthermore, the Analysys Mason study found that there are additional gains due to the high Power Usage Effectiveness of cloud data centres, and differences in the carbon intensity of generation in the local electricity grid.

Analysys Mason compared a typical hardware stack deployed in an enterprise data centre or IT closet, and its associated energy consumption, to the energy consumption of comparable functions delivered by Cloudflare’s global network.

DIGITAL COMMERCE TRANSACTIONS SURPASS 1 TRILLION BY 2024 - JUNIPER RESEARCH

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Digital commerce transaction volumes will reach 1.08 trillion globally by next year; rising from 966 billion this year, a very strong 12 per cent growth in a single year, according to a new study from Juniper Research.

The new study, which covers digital money transfer, digital and physical goods purchases, digital ticketing purchases, banking, NFC payments, QR code payments and bill payments, found the strongest growth will be in three markets; driving overall digital commerce adoption.

According to Juniper Research in a statement, the top three highest growth sectors are near field communication (NFC) payments with 30 per cent; digital ticketing (19 per cent); and physical goods (12 per cent).

The research found NFC payments are surging; boosted by increasing contactless acceptance, particularly within transit.

The move to open-loop payment systems within ticketing has had an important network effect; boosting awareness of contactless payments among potential users and increasing usage within markets that previously lagged behind, such as the United States and Germany.

“The shift towards open-loop payments within ticketing has now begun to reach more remote areas, becoming the default payment method in many markets. We anticipate this momentum to boost contactless payments overall, and also increase open-loop adoption in other areas, such as for EV charging,” said research author, Nick Maynard.

Furthermore, the research identified with the rising cost of living reducing disposable income, digital commerce vendors need to differentiate themselves to maintain growth.

As such, the research recommends vendors in highly competitive markets, such as money transfer, focus on reducing the cost of payments as the key differentiator in the current climate.

GLOBAL FISHING WATCH AND PALAU ENTER PARTNERSHIP TO ENHANCE TRANSPARENCY IN FISHERIES SECTOR

Momentum builds in Pacific as Palau joins progressive countries committed to publicly sharing vessel tracking data

NEW YORK, U.S., Sept 22 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
Global Fishing Watch welcomes a new partnership with Palau that aims to strengthen sustainable fisheries management and promote transparency as a principle of ocean governance.

The agreement, which was signed between Global Fishing Watch and Palau’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, establishes a collaborative framework for publicly sharing the country’s vessel tracking data, which is aggregated and shared through the Fisheries Information Management System. The memorandum of understanding also reinforces the two parties’ commitment to the development of robust ocean governance policies—a longstanding priority for the Pacific island nation.

Announced this week at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the partnership marks a cooperative effort that will enable joint work and demonstrate the various ways the fisheries sector can embrace open data to enhance management decisions and increase transparency across the seafood supply chain.

“By making our vessel tracking data publicly available on the Global Fishing Watch map, we hope to increase transparency and accountability of fishing activities in our waters,” said the Honorable Steven Victor, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Environment, Palau. “This can drive sustainability of our resources and contribute to reducing illegal activities in our ocean.”

"Palau has consistently demonstrated leadership in marine conservation and fisheries management,” said Tony Long, chief executive officer of Global Fishing Watch. “This partnership underscores our mutual commitment to combating illegal fishing while also signaling transparency as a powerful tool in driving responsible fishing practices. We hope other countries will follow their lead.”

Palau and Global Fishing Watch share a common interest in safeguarding marine biodiversity and promoting sustainable fisheries and resource management. Under their partnership, Global Fishing Watch will provide analytical support based on the examination of vessel behaviors, fleet patterns, and trends associated with port inspections, licensing and enforcement efforts. This information exchange can help inform the country’s ongoing development of its national fisheries policy and marine spatial plans, and will also strengthen its regional and international influence in support of ocean governance initiatives.

With an exclusive economic zone spanning over 232,000 square miles (600,000 square kilometers), Palau is committed to robust management of its industrial and small-scale fisheries—compliance is the cornerstone for the country’s long lasting economic benefits derived from its marine resources. The Pacific is home to the planet’s most productive tuna fisheries, producing over half of the global tuna catch, estimated to be worth about $26 billion each year. Thanks to continued leadership from national governments and regional institutions, all of the major tuna stocks in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean are currently considered to be sustainably fished. Palau’s commitment to further enhancing fisheries transparency will support continued efforts to highlight and maintain the successes of the region.

As a member of the Pacific Island Forum Fisheries Agency, the Parties to the Nauru Agreement, and the Western & Central Pacific Fisheries Commission, Palau has also been a leading voice on ocean protections. In 2022, Palau hosted the 7th Our Ocean Conference, bringing global attention to various marine issues, including the ocean-climate crisis, small-scale fisheries, and illegal fishing, which accounts for over $300 million worth of tuna in the Pacific region alone. The event led to 410 commitments worth over $16 billion USD, setting a positive example for the global community.

Palau joins Papua New Guinea and the Republic of the Marshall Islands who have committed to making their vessel tracking data publicly available via Global Fishing Watch’s map. With continued support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, Global Fishing Watch remains committed to advancing transparency as a principle of ocean governance and working with countries from around the world to make its technology and analytical tools available to advance policy decisions.
