NEC Asia-Pacific Provides Innovative Technologies For SMRT Buses



KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) -- NEC Asia Pacific will implement a suite of innovative technologies for Singapore public transport service provider, SMRT Buses Ltd, at the Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange.

In a statement here today, the infocommunications technology provider said it would equip the bus interchange with different technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), video analytics and software-defined networking solutions to improve commuter experience.

"It is also to provide real-time information gathering to improve bus transportation services," said the Singapore-based company.

NEC Asia said the company and SMRT had commenced trials on features such as video analytics and face and fingerprint matching technologies which were expected to be fully implemented by year-end.

"For the safety and security of commuters, video analytics technology will be utilised to analyse changing behavioral patterns of people and their age and gender profiles," it said.

Managing Director Lim Kok Quee said NEC Asia had been working with SMRT Buses since 2014 to implement Singapore's first telematics system.

"We are happy to contine to build on this relationship with SMRT to co-create and implement NEC's suite of innovative technologies at the Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange," he said.

Meanwhile, SMRT Vice-President Tan Kian Heing said the partnership with NEC had proven to be successful in terms of providing SMRT with innovative ways to better serve its commuters.

"This will pave the way for future collaborations between NEC and SMRT," he added.
