PETALING JAYA, June 13 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah attended the breaking of fast with the people at Masjid Ara Damansara here today.
At the ceremony, he presented tithe amounting to RM1.77 million to Medical Welfare Funds at 17 hospitals around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to ease the burden of Muslim patients who were less fortunate and required funding for hospital treatment.
He also consented to receive tithe from four companies totalling RM8.8 million and presented Hari Raya contributions to 264 individuals from various walks of life including the poor, needy and Muslim converts in the state.
The four companies presented business tithes for the year 2016 were DRB-Hicom Berhad (RM5.5 million), Mahsa University (RM1.3 million), Jakel Trading Sdn Bhd (RM1 million) and Sime Darby Property Berhad (RM1 million).
At the same event, the state government also presented special contribution totaling RM70,000 to mosques in Petaling Jaya namely Masjid Ara Damansara (RM10,000), Masjid Nurul Ehsan and Masjid Aminah Binti Abdullah Al Muhairi, received RM30,000 each.
Sultan Sharafuddin then performed the Maghrib, Isya and 'Tarawih' prayers with the congregation.
Also present were the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Lembaga Zakat Selangor chief executive officer Hussin Mohd Ali.
