TPM PRESENTS CNC DESKTOP UNITS TO THREE TECHNICAL INSTITUTIONS IN MELAKA

JASIN, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM) today presented three Computer Numerical Control (CNC) desktop units worth RM300,000 each to three Technical Education Institutions in Melaka to enhance the knowledge of students in CNC and AutoCAD.

TPM president and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Azman Shahidin said the CNC desktop units were the first locally manufactured CNC by TPM’s subsidiary TPM Engineering Sdn Bhd (TPME) through the Inno Fund under the Social Innovation Programme from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Mohd Azman said the three units were CNC’s prototype units and presented to Politeknik Merlimau Melaka, Pusat Latihan Teknologi Tinggi and Kolej Vokasional Melaka Tengah.

“The development of the desktop was done not only in relevance to the demands of technical institutions but in line with the current industry that use local fabrication that meets the requirement of the local industry standards compared with the PC within the normal CNC desktop model.

“This Desktop unit is important to prepare students who undergo technical training to become marketable and meet the demands of the workforce because the design of the CNC is the same used by the industry players,” he told reporters at the handing over ceremony for the CNC, here today.

Mohd Azman said the cost of manufacturing the CNC was about RM100,000 per unit but still cheap when compared with foreign made models and widely used in the manufacturing and automotive industries.

He said work on producing the three CNC units had started in December last year and took about eight months to complete.

Mohd Azman said if the support and response was good, the manufacturing could be commercialised.

He said TPME also provides training and special courses for lecturers and students related to the modules like CNC Machine Designing, Computer-aided Design and Computer-aided Manufacturing, CNC Machine Asembley and maintenance of CNC Machines.
