CYBERJAYA, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Following the introduction of the Regulatory Framework for Internet Messaging and Social Media Service Providers (Service Providers), gazetted on 1 August 2024 and set to take effect on 1 January 2025, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is commencing a Public Consultation on the draft Code of Conduct (Best Practice) for the Service Providers.
The Public Consultation seeks to gather feedback from the Service Providers, the public, industry players, and other relevant stakeholders. The objective of the draft Code of Conduct (Best Practice) is to create a safer online environment for all Malaysians, with a particular focus on protecting children and vulnerable groups who may be at risk of being exposed to harmful content online.The proposed draft Code of Conduct (Best Practice) outlines the best practices for adoption by the Service Providers licensed under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
MCMC strongly encourages participation from the public, Service Providers, and all interested stakeholders in this consultation, which will be held from 22 October 2024 to 5 November 2024. This is a crucial opportunity for all parties to contribute to policies that will shape the future of the online environment in Malaysia, ensuring that the country's online space remains safe, secure, and conducive to growth and innovation.
