CFM OFFERS TIPS TO DEAL WITH NETWORK CONGESTION DURING HARI RAYA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 – The Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) has come up with a guide to help consumers cope with the unexpected surge in mobile network traffic during Hari Raya.
Hari Raya is when people will want to wish family and friends, so this means that more mobile devices will be competing for the same services.
This in turn burdens the network as many of these devices will be running applications that use large amounts of data, such as photo and video sharing.
CFM’s recommendations include switching to 3G or 2G mobile data, moving away from areas with high consumer density, limiting heavy data usage, closing running background applications, and shutting down auto updates or data sync on applications.
As a pragmatic approach during this time, limit phone calls to emergencies and use Wi-Fi for video calls.
Consumers could also try using apps like Internet Speed Master and Internet Booster & Optimizer for faster connection.
CFM also listed practical suggestions such as making sure your phone battery isn’t near empty, and restarting your phone (to reboot it).
Mohamad Yusrizal Datuk Yusoff, CFM chairman, said service providers will work around the clock to ensure minimal disruptions in services.
"Communication network usage is like a road or highway. The capacity is sufficient for everyone on normal days, however, when it comes to the festive season, more cars will be using the same road and this leads to traffic congestion,” he said.
