PUTRAJAYA, Oct 10 (Bernama)— The Association of
Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) today officially launched the
ACCA INternary Programme (ACCA INternary), featuring a unique
collaboration between the academic industry and the professional body in
Malaysia.
ACCA INternary provides
undergraduates of Accounting degrees with an accelerated pathway to study for a
professional qualification while completing the industrial experience required
to qualify as an ACCA Chartered Certified Accountant, all within two years
of graduation from the university.
ACCA Malaysia
Head of Education, Helmy Mohtar, said the programme allows both employers
and public universities to develop well-rounded graduates geared up for the
industry and well prepared to qualify as professional accountants.
“The
programme is in fact a ‘3u1i’ mode of learning, whereby the students will
study in a campus for three years and one full year of internship in the
industry, while also pursuing the ACCA qualification,” he told the media
after the programme’s launch, here, today.
The
launch was graced by Higher Education Ministry deputy
director-general, Prof Dr Noor Azizi Ismail.
Helmy said
the initiative is being supported by Universiti Malaysia
Terengganu (UMT) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) which
will work closely with ACCA to educate students for
ACCA INternary, while eight employers are also committed to
support the programme.
The
employers are Baker Tilly Monteiro Heng, Ernst & Young,
Deloitte, Grant Thornton Malaysia, KPMG, Maybank, Paramount Corp Bhd
and PwC.
Helmy also
said the employers’ commitment to support the year-long internship will
provide students with the relevant experience needed towards qualifying as
ACCA member and potential future employability.
