KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- The first motor sports convention was held recently at the development zone in Wuhan, the capital of central China's Hubei Province – jointly hosted by the Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports (FAMS) and the Wuhan government.
According to the Publicity Department of Wuhan Development Zone Working Committee (Hannan District Committee), the convention consisted of seven competitions, three performances, one show and interaction activities for the public.
FAMS chairman, Zhan Guojun said that it was the largest comprehensive game for automobiles and motorcycles so far in China.
The convention has a strategic meaning for the city's development zone – to build a sound auto consumption and service system and exploration of the running of an automobile aftermarket based on the Internet, a statement said.
Wuhan development zone is home to 54 Fortune 500 companies, seven vehicle enterprises and over 500 auto parts companies. Dongfeng Automobile Group is also headquartered in the city.
The zone has strong capacity in automobile manufacturing, research and development, and its new energy and intelligent auto base is under construction.
Aiming at Hubei's first trillion-yuan industry, the development zone's world-class automobile industry cluster is in full swing.
The competitions included the World Touring Car Race (WTCR), China Touring Car Championship (CTCC), FIA F4 China Championship, China GT, China Truck Racing Championship, Car Endurance Championship (CEC) and Car Drifting Championship (CDC), with several of them authorized by the FIA.
There were over 360 top racers from more than 80 teams from 30 plus countries including US, UK, France, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Japan, Belgium, Czech and Switzerland with 697 judges and 37 special purpose vehicles to provide all kinds of professional services.
