30 RARE FRUIT TREES PLANTED AT KL FOREST ECO PARK TODAY

KUALA LUMPUR,  April 12 (Bernama) -- Some 30 rare fruit trees  of various species, like lanzones or langsat, Malay gooseberry or cermai and Bilimbi or belimbing buluh, were planted at the Kuala Lumpur Forest Eco Park today under the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve Conservation project.

The project is jointly organised by the Federal territory Forestry Department, an environmental organisation known as EcoKnights and Vanke Holdings (Malaysia) in support of the River of Life (RoL) programme.

EcoKnights programme director Fadly Bakhtiar said the Kuala Lumpur Forest Eco Park was chosen as the location for the tree planting because of its location, which is at the centre of the federal capital.

"The tree planting does not benefit only human, but also the animal life, like birds, and it also helps to enhance the ecosystem in the area,’ he told reporters after the launch of the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve Conservation project here by Federal Territory Forestry deputy director Mariatul Qiptiyah Md Sah.

About 30 volunteers from Sekolah Menengah Sains Alam Shah, EcoKnights members and staff of Vanke Holdings (Malaysia) participated in the tree planting programme today.
