KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- Zhangzhou, one of China’s famous historical and cultural cities has boosted its tourism economy in recent years with its line-up of world wonders.
Its world tangible cultural heritage, Tulou (Earthen Castles) in Nanjing and Hua’an counties have witnessed great changes in Zhangzhou, according to a statement from the Zhangzhou Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau.
Nanjing Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster, the iconic Fujian Tulou architecture, consists of one square, one oval and three round earthen castles which look like a plum blossom in full bloom dotting the ground in a bird’s eye view.
Next, the Zhangzhou Coast Volcano National Geopark in Zhangpu county and Longhai city have the best preserved, largest and densest basalt columns in the world, which can be deemed as a world-class volcano spectacle.
A total of 1,400,000 giant basalt columns densely queue up like a frozen waterfall from the cliffs or an array of ribbons hanging into the sea, presenting a breathtaking view.
The world wonders in Zhangzhou also include the 4.37 metre-high Dongshan Rocking Stone which weighs more than 200 tonnes.
The stone has been standing at the seaside for over 1,000 years.
Zhangzhou is also rich in flowers, fruits and aquatic resources. It is also reputed to be the Capital of Flowers, Hometown of Fruits and a centre of aquatic products.
International quests are attracted to the city’s tourist resources and deep cultural heritage.
