Mandela Day: UEM Sunrise´s community library programme raises knowledge sharing awareness

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- Inspired by the Nelson Mandela International Day (Mandela Day) which is observed on July 18, UEM Sunrise Berhad (UEM Sunrise) staff volunteered to sort out thousands of books donated by the public after the launch of its BukuDrive.
BukuDrive is UEM Sunrise’s initiative for its community library programme, BukuHub, according to a statement.
“On this day of reflection on Dr Mandela’s life and work, we embrace the true spirit of his legacy and aspire to emulate his example,” said UEM Sunrise chief marketing officer, Kenny Wong.
“We do this by taking action and volunteering our time, hoping to raise awareness and support for his values of helping people in need and in doing so, share the power of knowledge through donated books.”
Mandela Day was initiated by the United Nations in 2009 after Dr Mandela’s global call to action that celebrates the idea that everyone has the power to transform the world, and the ability to make an impact in every community.
BukuHub represents UEM Sunrise’s small but powerful strides towards Mandela Day’s focus area and goal of Education and Literacy. This is very much in line with its CSR strategy of Education Enhancement and Community Engagement.
UEM Sunrise’s BukuDrive initiative in Publika mall will continue until Dec 31. For more information, contact https://uemsunrise.com.
