CLOUDFLARE-DATABRICKS PARTNERSHIP TO CUT COST, COMPLEXITY OF SHARING DATA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- Cloudflare Inc, the security, performance and reliability company helping to build a better Internet, has announced a partnership with Databricks, the data and artificial intelligence (AI) company, to enable organisations to safely, simply and affordably share and collaborate on live data.

According to a statement, with Cloudflare and Databricks, joint customers can eliminate the complexity and dynamic costs that stand in the way of the full potential of multi-cloud analytics and AI initiatives.

“The combination of Cloudflare's massive global network and zero egress storage, along with Databricks' powerful sharing and processing capabilities, will give our joint customers the fastest, most secure and most affordable data sharing capabilities across the globe,” said Cloudflare co-founder and chief executive officer, Matthew Prince.

Databricks is driven by the mission to help data teams solve the world’s toughest problems, and enabling organisations to safely share and collaborate on data is critical to achieving that mission.

However many organisations still struggle to share data across clouds, customers, teams and with partners, they often use restrictive platforms and face maintenance burdens, exorbitant egress costs, and a lack of security.

Databricks’ Delta Sharing, the industry’s first open protocol for secure data sharing, makes it simple to share data across teams, and with other organisations, regardless of which computing platforms they use.

Databricks will now support Delta Sharing from Cloudflare R2, Cloudflare’s zero egress, distributed object storage offering.

This seamless integration enables data teams to share live data sets in R2 easily and efficiently, eliminating the need for complex data transfers or duplications of data sets, and with zero egress fees.

This will enable joint customers to ensure they are sharing the most up to date data sets with their partners, suppliers, and lines of businesses, without compromising security and privacy, and without unpredictable, surprise egress fees.

CERTIK AWARDED US$500,000 BOUNTY FOR SUI BLOCKCHAIN THREAT DISCOVERY

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- CertiK, a global pioneer in blockchain security, was awarded a US$500,000 bounty by Sui for the discovery of a new type of security threat codenamed "HamsterWheel”, which had the potential to disrupt the entire Sui Layer one chain. (US$1=RM4.63)

Differing from traditional attacks that shut down chains by crashing nodes, the HamsterWheel attack traps all nodes in a state of ceaseless operation without processing new transactions, and this strategy can cripple entire networks, effectively rendering them inoperable.

CertiK Chief Security Officer, Kang Li said the discovery of the HamsterWheel attack demonstrated the evolving sophistication of threats to blockchain networks.

“At CertiK, we are dedicated to staying at the forefront of security developments to ensure the safety and reliability of the Web3 world,” he said in a statement.

The security firm reported this critical vulnerability to Sui ahead of its mainnet launch and received confirmation from Sui about the potential damages the HamsterWheel attack could inflict on the network.

Recognising the gravity of the situation, Sui swiftly implemented solutions to mitigate the potential harm of such attacks. Fixes have already been rolled out to ensure the security of the SUI network.

In appreciation of CertiK's pivotal discovery, Sui has paid out a US$500,000 reward for this critical finding. This gesture underscores the value of proactive cybersecurity efforts, bug bounty programmes, and the importance of fostering a secure and resilient blockchain ecosystem.

This incident highlights the necessity of robust security measures and preemptive threat identification in the rapidly developing blockchain space. It reiterates CertiK's commitment to securing the web3 world through cutting-edge technologies and best-in-class security services.

TESSA UNVEILS POSITIVE RESULTS FROM CD30 CAR-T COMBINATION STUDY WITH NIVOLUMAB

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- Tessa Therapeutics Ltd (Tessa), a clinical-stage cell therapy company presented encouraging safety and efficacy data from a combination study of its autologous CD30 CAR-T therapy (TT11) with Bristol Myers Squibb’s nivolumab at the 17th International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma at Lugano, Switzerland recently.

TT11 is an autologous CD30 chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy that harvests the patient’s own T-cells and modifies them to target cancer cells expressing the CD30 protein, a well-validated lymphoma target.

According to Tessa in a statement, TT11 is currently being investigated in combination with Nivolumab in Phase 1B (ACTION) study targeting R/R classical Hodgkin Lymphoma (cHL) patients after frontline therapy failure.

“We are very encouraged by the exciting results demonstrated by the ACTION study. These results offer the potential to re-define Hodgkin lymphoma treatment paradigm, offering a second line treatment alternative free of transplant and high dose chemotherapy to patients who fail frontline therapy.

“The well tolerated safety profile is especially meaningful for older patients with poor tolerability and young adolescents with risk of long-term sequelae from current standard of care,” said Tessa President and Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Willemsen.

ACTION is a single arm multi-centre Phase 1b study in which study protocol involves patients being treated with two cycles of Nivolumab, followed by a single infusion of CD30.CAR-T preceded by lymphodepletion (LD) chemotherapy.

An additional two cycles of Nivolumab are then given, followed by response assessment by PET/CT per Lugano 2014 criteria. Patients without progressive disease may undergo either autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) or continue Nivolumab up to six additional cycles per physician and patient preference.

A total of 15 patients were enrolled of which 13 were treated with Nivolumab + CD30 CAR-T therapy. 10 patients reached End of Treatment (Post-Nivo Cycle 4) and were evaluable for response.

Of the 10 patients, nine responded to the treatment with complete disappearance of tumour observed by PET/CT in seven patients and partial reduction in tumour size observed in two patients, while one patient had stable disease.

TESSA THERAPEUTICS' 'OFF-THE-SHELF' THERAPY YIELDS PROMISING RESULTS IN EARLY-STAGE STUDY OF HODGKIN LYMPHOMA

  • 78% Overall Response Rate (14/18 patients), including seven patients exhibiting a complete response to TT11X allogeneic CAR-T therapy
  • Safety data encouraging with no graft-versus-host-disease and no neurotoxicity
  • Updated data highlighted in podium presentation at the 17th International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma expand upon favorable results presented at 2022 Annual Meeting of American Society of Hematology (ASH)
SINGAPORE, June 16 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tessa Therapeutics Ltd. (Tessa), a clinical-stage cell therapy company developing next-generation cancer treatments for hematological malignancies and solid tumors, today announced promising safety and efficacy data from a study of its off-the-shelf CD30.CAR EBVST therapy (TT11X) in patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) Hodgkin lymphoma. The results were presented by Tessa collaborators at the Baylor College of Medicine in an oral podium presentation at the 17th International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma (ICML) taking place at Lugano, Switzerland. TT11X, Tessa’s allogeneic “off-the-shelf” cell therapy, is based on Tessa’s proprietary CD30.CAR-modified Epstein-Barr virus-specific T-cell (EBVST) platform.

The podium presentation (#47), titled, “Off-the-shelf CD30.CAR EBV-specific T cells provide a safe and effective therapy for HL,” reported data from 18 heavily pre-treated patients with R/R Hodgkin lymphoma who were administered TT11X across four dosing levels (40 × 106 CD30.CAR EBVSTs, 100 × 106 CD30.CAR EBVSTs, 400 × 106 CD30.CAR EBVSTs, and 800 × 106 CD30.CAR EBVSTs). An overall response rate of 78% (14/18 patients) was observed across all four dose levels, including seven complete responses and seven partial responses, with higher doses producing improved clinical responses. Additionally, TT11X was demonstrated to be well tolerated with no dose-limiting toxicities observed, including no evidence of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) or immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS). Six episodes of possible cytokine release syndrome were all grade one (mildest of four grades).

“The data reported at ICML suggest that allogeneic CD30.CAR EBVSTs provide a potentially safe and efficacious treatment for CD30-positive lymphomas and affirm previously reported data indicating the technology may avert GVHD and immediate rejection even after multiple infusions,” stated Carlos Ramos, M.D., Professor at Center for Cell and Gene Therapy, Baylor College of Medicine, USA. “Importantly, CD30.CAR EBVSTs elicited a clinical response in 14 of 18 patients with R/R Hodgkin lymphoma including seven complete responses. Based on these results, CD30.CAR EBVSTs appear to be a promising platform for off-the-shelf cancer immunotherapy.”

Tessa is currently advancing a pipeline of products that utilize CD30.CAR-modified EBVSTs, including its lead allogeneic cell therapy, TT11X, which is being co-developed with the Baylor College of Medicine for the treatment of relapsed or refractory CD30-positive lymphomas. Tessa’s proprietary “off-the-shelf” CD30.CAR EBVST allogeneic cell therapy platform is based on decades-long research and development by researchers at Baylor College of Medicine into the unique properties of virus-specific T-cells (VSTs). These highly specialized T cells have the ability to recognize and kill infected cells while activating other parts of the immune system for a coordinated response. CD30-CAR Allogeneic VSTs without further genetic modification have demonstrated a strong safety profile and efficacy in early trials with minimal risk of GVHD.

“The data presented at ICML are very promising and further validate our “off-the-shelf” CD30.CAR EBVST allogeneic cell therapy platform in R/R Hodgkin lymphoma,” stated Ivan Horak, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Officer of Tessa Therapeutics. “Tessa is steadfastly focused on advancing the development of TT11X as a potential treatment for CD30-positive lymphomas, while targeting opportunities to extend the EBVST platform to other cancer indications and enhance the cell performance and durability of the technology.”

TOSHIBA UNVEILS 600V SUPER JUNCTION STRUCTURE N-CHANNEL POWER MOSFET

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (Toshiba) has expanded its line-up of N-channel power MOSFETs fabricated with the latest-generation process, with a 600 volt (V) super junction structure.

According to Toshiba in a statement, it is suitable for data centres, switching power supplies, and power conditioners for photovoltaic generators.

The new product, "TK055U60Z1" is the first 600V product in the DTMOSVI series and is housed in a TOLL package that allows Kelvin connection of its signal source terminal for the gate drive.

The influence of inductance in the source wire in the package can be reduced to accentuate the high-speed switching performance of the MOSFET, which suppresses oscillation during switching.

Toshiba will continue to expand its 600V DTMOSVI series line-up and its already released 650V DTMOSVI series products, and support energy conservation by reducing power loss in switching power supplies.

MCKL HOLDS INAUGURAL TEACHING & LEARNING SYMPOSIUM IN KUALA LUMPUR AND PENANG

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) --
Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) recently hosted its inaugural Teaching & Learning Symposium with the theme of ‘College Readiness for Academic Success’ at both its Kuala Lumpur and Penang campuses recently.

The symposium brought together close to 150 high school students and teachers in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, providing them with invaluable insights and resources to thrive academically and transition smoothly into college.

Dr. Chua Ping Yong, CEO of MCKL, spoke on the future employability disruptions due to the rise of artificial intelligence technology on a global scale.

“The most relevant question is not to what extent automation and augmentation of human labour will affect your future employment, but under what conditions the global labour market can support a new balance on the share of labour between human workers, robots, machines, and algorithms in line with the emergence of AI technology in this era.”

“It is not the fear and resistance to change, but rather how we adapt to it. It is not how we stop students from cheating using technology such as ChatGPT, but rather how we can include such a technology in their education,” he said.

Dr. Gerard Boey, Principal, MCKL College (Penang, Pykett Campus) and Academic Dean, encouraged educators and students to embrace digital technology and tools with an open mind to be future-ready for the 21st century and beyond.

“Don’t be afraid of new technology and tools such as AI and IoT. We should ‘learn how to learn’ and double up our knowledge so that we will not be obsolete in the future,” he said.

Engaging and interactive workshops were a key highlight of the symposium, offering practical strategies and tools for high school students to enhance their readiness for college. Topics such as effective note-taking techniques, critical thinking skills, research methodologies, and exam preparation were explored in depth. These workshops allowed students to actively participate, ask questions, and gain hands-on experience in applying these strategies to their own studies.

These interactive sessions facilitated an open dialogue, enabling students to gain insider perspectives on college life, academic challenges, and support systems available on campus. Such interactions helped alleviate concerns and built confidence among the students, assuring them that they were not alone in their college aspirations.

Students were also encouraged to interact with their peers from different schools, creating a supportive community of like-minded individuals. Additionally, they had the chance to network with MCKL representatives and lecturers, establishing valuable connections that could provide guidance and support throughout their college application process and beyond.

The workshops also allowed educators to gain a deeper understanding of student needs, preferences, and challenges. By actively involving students through such engagements, MCKL demonstrated its commitment to student-centred education and fostering a supportive learning environment.

MGA LAUNCHES SABAH REGION WORKING COMMITTEE TO PROMOTE THE ADVANCEMENT OF A SUSTAINABLE GAS INDUSTRY

SABAH, June 7 (Bernama) --
Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) on 7 April 2023 officially launched its Sabah Region Working Committee at a networking reception in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Attended by existing and prospective members alike, the event marks the importance of concerted efforts by the gas industry in Sabah in enhancing the already vital role that natural gas plays in providing reliable and clean energy for the state, thus making Sabah an attractive investment destination.

This recent year has seen several key developments in the gas industry in Sabah. This includes the launch of the Sabah Gas Masterplan in 2022 which is designed to attract investments into the state by capitalising on its indigenous natural gas resources. The Masterplan also identified a more prominent role in gas marketing and distribution for the State Government where natural gas will be made available for the development of key industries in the state.

“The formation of MGA’s Sabah Region Working Committee is timely as the state becomes more independent in regulating its gas supply with the establishment of the Energy Commission of Sabah. Together with the Sabah Gas Masterplan, all the jigsaw pieces seem to fall nicely into place. Sabah Energy Corporation is excited to lead the newly-formed Working Committee. With strong support from policymakers, regulators and industry players, we are confident that the gas industry in Sabah will enhance its role in ensuring energy security, energy access and drive socio-economic development.” said Adzmir Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Energy Corporation at the launching event.

“As the lead advocate for the Malaysian gas industry, it is our duty to represent our members throughout Malaysia to develop a vibrant and sustainable gas industry. MGA has the collective expertise and experience from more than 130 members from across the natural gas value chain that can support any gas-related initiatives throughout Malaysia, including in Sabah. We see the potential of the gas industry in Sabah to champion socio-economic progress, similar to that in Peninsular Malaysia when gas consumption rose in tandem with the rapid growth of GDP.MGA has been playing an important role in advocating gas since its establishment in 1986 and is highly regarded as the bridge between policymakers and the industry; a role which we look forward to enhancing in Sabah.” Abdul Aziz Othman, President of MGA added.

MGA plays a prominent role in promoting engagement, discourse and dialogue with key stakeholders to develop a vibrant and sustainable gas industry, to fuel Malaysia's socio-economic growth. It has been deeply involved in several national-level committees including those for the National Energy Policy 2022-2040 and the upcoming roadmaps for hydrogen and natural gas.
