Conference in Shenyang China highlights smart cities and green development

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- The 18th World Winter Cities Association for Mayors Conference ( WWCAM Conference) held recently in Shenyang, China themed "winter city, better life” probed into the  construction and green development of smart cities.
The representatives agreed to strengthen communication with Shenyang to develop international cultural tourism industry projects, share experiences and achievement of precise urban planning, delicate development and lean management.
The conference attended by 41 city groups and 52 chamber of commerce groups from 30 countries also agreed to innovate and promote the exchanges and cooperation among winter cities so as to solve development problems around the world.
Since the first WWCAM Conference held in Sapporo, Japan in 1982, the conference has injected new vitality into the exchanges among cities in the world.
Director of Salt Lake City's Economic Development Department, Lara Fritts said Salt Lake city plans to use 100 per cent renewable energy for community electricity support and reduces 80 per cent of greenhouse gases by 2040, allowing every citizen to enjoy fresh air in cold winter.
The plans are supported by Shenyang government to cooperate and transform from coal-based to renewable energy source inspired by the department’s Resources Plan, a statement from Shenyang Municipal Government said.
Fifteen representatives from Japan, South Korea, Canada and France introduced their cities' experiences and achievements besides gave related suggestions to building new smart cities with higher quality and efficiency as well as to develop green cities with more sustainable development.
Business associations from 18 countries and 60 related enterprises also attended the Winter Cities Business Cooperation Meeting which conducted one-to-one project connections on tourism, IT, environmental protection and other fields.
