AEON MALL NILAI PHOTO FRAME WINNING PICTURES FROM MTCC PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
NILAI, May 8 (Bernama) -- Enter into the walk ways leading to the prayer rooms or the rest rooms of every floor of the newly established Aeon Mall Nilai, you enter into a unique environment of pristine forest rich in biodiversity as the walls are beautifully decorated with winning pictures from the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) “Experience Forest, Experience MTCS–PEFC” Photography Contests.
Elliot Erwitt, one of the leading figures in magazine, advertising, and commercial photography said, “Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” To a great extent, the MTCC Photography Contests, conducted in 2017 & 2018, were organized to achieve this objective.
“MTCC hopes that through this platform and the lenses of nature enthusiasts, the winning photographs displayed at Aeon Mall Nilai will enable the general public to see the forests in a different way, to better appreciate the many roles and functions of forests, and a greater awareness that these forests could be sustainably managed, contributing to our national sustainability agenda,” said Yong Teng Koon, CEO of MTCC.
“We appreciate and are very pleased with the collaboration of Aeon Co. (M) Bhd to increase public awareness on the importance of maintaining the integrity of our precious ecosystems, the forests in particular. Such awareness is important to provide support to our work in promoting sustainable forest management through the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS),” Yong added.
Yong was impressed by the elaborate effort made by Aeon Co. (M) Bhd to incorporate sustainability concept in the building and operations of the mall including the provisions of walking spaces and pit stops to encourage its clients to walk more, making the visit to the mall both a leisure and healthy experience.
About the Malaysian Timber Certification Council
Established in 1998, the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) is an independent organisation tasked to develop and operate the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS). As a voluntary national scheme, the MTCS provides for independent assessment of forest management practices and audit of timber product manufacturers or exporters to ascertain that the timber products manufactured or exported are sourced from sustainably managed forests. This is to ensure the sustainable management of Malaysia’s natural forest and forest plantations, as well as to meet the demand for certified timber products.
The MTCS has been endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), the largest forest certification programme, representing more than 300 million hectares of certified forests worldwide. The MTCS is also the first tropical timber certification scheme in the Asia Pacific region to be endorsed by the PEFC.
In Malaysia, MTCS is recognised by the Green Building Index (GBI) Malaysia under its Sustainable Timber criterion. As a PEFC-endorsed scheme, the scheme is also recognised by several green building schemes in Australia, Italy, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
