FIRST THROW OF BAIT BRINGS GOOD LUCK TO LORRY DRIVER

KUALA SELANGOR, April 28 (Bernama) -- A lorry driver’s first throw of the bait in a fishing competition landed him a huge first-prize jackpot of RM70,000 cash in the Tourism Malaysia’s Surfcasting Tour: A Journey To Visit Malaysia 2020 at Pantai Remis here today.

Mat Yasin Arbaaim,44, who had competed in four other fishing competitions previously, said his win today was totally unexpected.

“This is not just my first win after taking part in four other competitions, but also from my very first throw...that’s what you call ‘rezeki’ (good fortune) as I managed to catch a sagor catfish weighing a little more than a kilogramme,” he said.

The competition, jointly organised by Tourism Malaysia and Wakjali Event Management and aimed at promoting interesting tourism spots nationwide in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2020, offered RM70,000 cash to the champion, RM12,000 to the runner-up and RM5,000 to the third-place winner.

Fourth place is worth RM1,000, fifth place RM700, sixth to 10th spots RM450 each and 11th to 100th spots RM300 each.

Also up for grabs were a 60-inch LED television, six 32-inch LED TVs, 20 hampers and 10 Igloo products as lucky draw prizes, including 1,000 t-shirts for participants who register early.

The third edition of the competition, after the first two in Melaka and Kelantan, began at 10.30 am and ended at 2.30 pm with over 1,600 participants.
