INSTEP SUPPORTS GLOBAL TALENT GROWTH IN HSE AND MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT

KUALA NERUS, TERENGGANU, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP) is stepping up its commitment to support the growth of global talents in the oil and gas industry by championing technical collaboration amongst the developing countries.


INSTEP recently concluded its fifth virtual training session for 2021 under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) designed to extend technical knowledge and expertise to various international participants. 

Themed “Best Practices for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Maintenance Excellence in Oil & Gas Industry”, the five-day session was attended by 22 participants from Argentina, Bhutan, Ecuador, Ghana, Indonesia, Iraq, Mauritania, Namibia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.

INSTEP Chief Executive Officer Idris Ibrahim said,” We are proud to be part of MTCP since 2004, in support of the Malaysian Government’s commitment to promote regional and technical cooperation as well as nurture collective self-reliance amongst the developing countries.”

Commenting on the programme, Indonesian delegate Machnun Arif said that his participation in the MTCP session proved to be a worthwhile investment as he was able to benefit a lot from the effective course content and experienced instructors.

“I have gained valuable knowledge not only in HSE and Maintenance Management System, but also in the area of oil and gas processing,” he added. 

Meanwhile, Aloise Ngor Mak Diagne of Senegal said, “I will implement the knowledge and practices shared in the programme at my workplace. As our local facility is still new and requires many improvements, these best practices in maintenance and HSE can be embedded into our daily operations.”

INSTEP has recorded excellent health and safety performance with notable international accolades such as The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Health and Safety Gold Awards for 2020 and 2021. Besides these, INSTEP also received the Gold Class 1 Award by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) for three consecutive years in 2019.

About MTCP 

The Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) was officially launched on 7 September 1980 at the Commonwealth Heads of State Meeting in New Delhi, India, to signify Malaysia’s commitment to the South-South Cooperation, particularly the Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries (TCDC). The MTCP emphasises on the development of human resources through the provision of trainings in various areas which are essential for a country’s development such as the public administration, good governance, health, education, agriculture, sustainable development, poverty alleviation, economy and finance, ICT and environment. Annually, Malaysia offered more than 65 capacity-building and technical assistance programmes under the MTCP, which have benefited more than 34,500 participants from 144 countries.
